I was just wondering what caused (I think its John) to laugh during the reoreding on the anthology? I was just listening to it and was wondering why

My guess is just Beatly loonyism!
You cant actually hear a cause on the track i think they are laughing pretty much from the start so must have been a wisecrack just before? Or John was pulling faces or somthing

I really like it for the laughing. And you can hear Ringo saying 'shut up' in it. John's laughing does sound a bit forced at points. Maybe that's what Jr is getting at.

But, if you listen carefully at the beginning, John seems to make some kind of sound with his mouth. Maybe that causes him to laugh. Is it a 'bird noise'? Like a pet bird eating? Connected to the song then?

Yeah, I thought it was a mix of chemicals and taking the 'mick' out of their own take.
Quite afew takes where you can hear a comic remark at the end. Lady Madonna has one, where Mccartney can be heard mimicking the odd style of voice he uses.

I always thought, and I think John said so, that he never used drugs when he had to go to the recording studio.

Stories abound about them going to the roof of EMI and getting stoned during sessions. There's a picture of John laying down on the floor trying to sing "Revolution" because he was tripping so hard.

Well, I think LSD was a rarity.
But grass etc was frequent. I'm sure there is a passage in the Anthology book, where Aspinall explains they were rolling behind the screens, while the Beatles rehearsed...then they tooka break.....smoke would rise behind the screens...then they went back to work.

I thought he lay on the floor merely as experimentation. Trying to get a different effect through the mic.

That's what I remember, yeah.
The guys used to laugh a lot filming Help! because of the joints and Sir George didn't like the guys taking it at the studio so they did it behind him.
I think this could be another example.

The sound John Lennon makes is the sound of a very dry mouth.
