THE brother of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney appeared in court today charged with sexual assault.

Mike McCartney, 61, is alleged to have groped a waitress at a Wirral pub during a family party in September 2004.

Father-of-six McCartney, a former member of 1960s band The Scaffold, spoke only to confirm his name and address during a brief appearance before Chester magistrates.

McCartney, of Heswall, was released on unconditional bail to appear at Chester crown court on November 14, when he is expected to enter a plea.
