Imagine...two of the people...John and Paul...John never met Yoko...John came up with this song he called 'The Ballad Of John And Paul', a song about the travails of their close partnership...singing about their close friendship...a song which becomes the signature tune of a partnership which lasted up to this very day..!
Well... ...it was after all only John and Paul on the instrumentation!
As it is, The Ballad Of John And Yoko is such a miserable affair, IMO, John just banging on about him and Yoko like that. In retrospect, a sign that Yoko was taking over John's life, surely. Anyway, it gets on my nerves, though the music is good. The one song which put me off buying 1 a few years back.
Ydoll put it best - it should have been a Plastic Ono Band song. It's OK, but not a Beatles single. I'm suprised it got to #1. Maybe it was the banning and the christ thing.
John should have left that out of the song. He'd already upset people by his earlier comment. If there's no need to say it, and people don't like it, it shouldn't be said!

Hey dude, we're talking rock'n'roll here. It's its business to upset (certain) people.
Its funny and sounds good in the song, I think it is a great song as is personally. I dont think John worried about upsetting people and I am glad he didnt.
But he was such a double-edged character. On the one hand upsetting, on the other hand, love is the answer. But, I've always felt that that is partly what made him such a restless creative person.
