Kat is asking for help here: http://dmbeatles.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?,b=albums,v=display,m=1133904275,s=4,highlight=#num4It's an interesting album. Thanks everybody. Hi All I have a mysterious record that i was hoping someone can give me some more information about. Im interested to know about its release, the mis-spelt names and tracks and what it would be worth to sell. Here is what i know: Title = THE BEALES (spelt wrong on the cover) 1969 - Taiwan Release Liming Record LM -2237 Cover Description (Front) - See photos Cover Description (Back) - All tracks listed with lyrics Record & Label - Very Good Condition No scratches Number imprint on record Side A = YEX 709-1 LM-2237-1 Side B = YEX 710-1 LM-2237-2 Tracks exactly as written on front cover [Track names are in english with Taiwanese translation underneath - Some tracks are named wrong in english] SIDE A 1 Back in the U.S.S.R 2 Dear Prudence 3 Class Onion 4 Ob - La - Di, - Ob - La - Da 5 Wild Honey Pie 6 The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill 7 While my guitar gently weeps 8 Happiness is a warm gun SIDE B 1 Martha My Dear 2 I'm so tired 3 Black bird 4 Piggies 5 Rocky Raccoon 6 Don't pass 7 Why don't we do it in the road? 8 I will 9 Julia I hope someone out there is able to help. Thankyou Here are some pictures of the album in question. I hope someone out there knows something about it. Thanks [/quote] It appears to be the from the White Album however for some reason there is only one LP. Im not sure if thats how it was released of if the 2nd has been misplaced over the years. I have been looking for more information on this for quite a while and have only found mention of a similar album once however nothing to tell me about its release or worth. So i guess it will remain a mystery album unless someone out there knows anything. |

I know in NZ we had albums released that were perculiar to us and Australia (The Essential Beatles circa '73 for instance.) Beatles For Sale is unrecognisable with a yellow cover and seperate photos of the band. Perhaps the same for Taiwan? A great curio with the misspelling. |

Wow guys thanks so much for your research on this. I am overwelmed by the response i have received. You are all a great bunch. Never have i felt so welcomed on a forum before. Thanks for the links Bobber. I wasn't able to access the Ebay link however. Did you find one for sale or just a similar one? Did Taiwan only make bootleg / counterfiet copys? Do you think they deliberatley changed the cover artwork? Does anyone know exactly why records are released in different countries with different cover artwork? You would think they would want to keep a consistant image. |

I doubt it was their choice, they didn't have control of how their albums were released in the US. |

The Ebay link seems to be dead. Never mind. It was a same record like yours, but this one was black and had a blue label. The seller thought it was 'very rare' and the starting bid was 45 USD. I think it was a double album though. I've noticed that there's several Taiwanese vinyl with this red colour, but there's no further details mentioned from what I've found. As I said before, I'm not an expert on foreign pressings. It might be made just to suit the local market and I'm not even sure if it's a bootleg. It is for sure however that it's a collectors item and collector may give a high price for such a thing. |

Found some more info
*DLP BEATLES, 1969 (Taiwan original re-named copy of The White Album . Liming Records blue label LM-2237. Has a completely different cover showing colour pictures of all four Beatles and a yellow or blue strip with the song titles printed in English and Taiwanese. Inside the gate fold are all the words to the songs in English, but no photos from the poster. Contains one or two spelling mistakes like "Class Onion" and Don t Pass Me By has been re-named Don t Pass .
* A price mentioned here, but again, it's supposed to be a double album: DLP BEATLES, 1969 (Very Rare Taiwanese original re-named copy of 'The White Album'. Liming Records blue label LM-2237. Completely different cover) VG/VG/EX $75
* A rare red cristal Taiwanese version of Meet The Beatles was auctioned at Ebay last year. Price: 105 USD.

Where are you finding all this info? You obviously know all the right places to look or your search engine gives you better results than mine does.
You say you found another record the same with black vinyl? Perhaps the orange vinyl makes mine super rare and makes up for the other LP being missing (i can only be hopefull)
Was that $75AU US or something different?

I've found some info on newsgroups, which I rarely use btw. The 75 is USD. Also, I've asked an Australian seller of these things for some information by e-mail. Nothing received yet... |

Kat, I know that Taiwan released the White Album (The Beatles) as a 2 LP set on the "DRAGON" Label in 1969. It has the flimsy plastic coated covers but it was a gatefold release. I cannot remember the catalogue number but it has a different picture on the cover to your picture and was on Black vinyl. I hope this either helps you or confuses you even more (hopefully not the latter). Good luck from a fellow Aussie. |

Thanks I guess this album was released a lot. And with so many defferent covers. (Does any one know how many?)
We have only ever had the 1 LP so i don't know what happened to the 2nd one if it actually was released with 2. The sleve does not appear to be torn or anything so it does not appear that there was ever a 2nd LP attached like some of the gate fold descriptions that have been mentioned. Perhaps there is a lonely 2nd half of the album out there somewhere waiting to be reunited with its lost twin

This release could be similar to the 1968 White Album release from Columbia (South America). In Columbia, it was released as 2 seperate albums. "The Beatles Volume 1" & "The Beatles Volume 2". This could the same sort of thing. |

Historical these records were specially made for the United States Forces that were stationated on Taiwan in the sixties. At some times more than 35.000 GIīs were stationed there to protect Taiwan against China. To keep them happy and of course to make some money the local industrie just began pressing their own versions with western rock music, under them of course The Beatles. But all of them were counterfeits, no royalties was paid to the Beatles record company. By the way more than 150 !!! different titles were released until the late 70ies. Funnily most of them carries mispelled names. Sgt. Peppebīs loney hearps club band as a example On european collector markets I have seen them for prices around 50,00 and more Hope I could help Source: The Beatles Worldwide by Christoph Maus http://www.beatles-worldwide.com |

I recently had 2 different people in my town look at the record to get an idea of its value.
One person (Record buyer and seller on ebay) said they thought it was an authentic release and would sell for at least $250AU and the other (Second hand record shop employee) thought it was a rare bootleg and would be worth $60 - $80 in my town and possibly in the $100's AU in a larger city.
So i guess it depends on what someone would pay. |

Sure. But that's always the point. The price depends on how bad the buyer wants to have it. |

This is his not so breathtaking answer: yes the record appears to be chinese it has some kind of value as a curiosity it is not an official beatle record but a pirate copy the cover is probably paper wrapped in plastic on both sides. Common in asia but probably not common in Europe. |

Yeah not so breathtaking. But thanks for asking your friend about this. Its a shame he wasn't able to solve the mystery all together. We would be pretty dumb to not work that much out ourselves by looking at it hehe. Oh well

At least we might deduct that such an album is rather common in Asia. If you wanna sell, go elsewhere! |

Bobber i hope my comment did not offend you as that was not intended. I really am not interested in selling the album (even if it was worth something). I simply was quite curious as to its history and release as it had been a mystery to my family for many years. Maybe i did get a little excited when someone suggested it might be worth something more than peanuts in value as a collectable and like anyone would, you hope you have a rarity in you hands. In my case (thanks to yours and others help) i have been able to find answers to most of these questions and now know a LOT more about this record than i did to begin with. While i might not have a mystery gem i am pleased to know more about it (even if it is a common Asian bootleg). I guess i can now say i am the proud owner of a just a common old Asian bootleg with spelling mistakes. 1.- Re-welcome to the forums, Kat!!! 2.- Remember that "common old Asian bootleg" doesn't mean "common album" ... bootlegs are not common, ... Decca Tapes included! 3.- Hope that you're here, with all of us, for a very long time ... and we'll be able to say to you: happy birthday ... this Monday! P.S. I'm pretty sure that you'd offended nobody here and that Bobber's OK with you, don't worry. |
