Just a thought. If The Beatles had decided to tour in the summer of '69 could it have saved the band? (maybe if Brian had lived?) They could have done a small US/UK outdoor tour (Altamont style, without the killing) dragged along Billy Preston, opened by Ravi Shankar. (should keep away the screaming girls ) and a support band (Pink Floyd?). Being on the road again revives the bands spirit. John, finally back doing what he does best, never does the bed/bag ins. Plastic Ono Band doesn't happen. Yoko leaves John when he refuses to allow her on stage. The tie in movie and live album (replacing Let It Be) are huge hits. The band followup with Abbey Road. Confidently striding into the seventies they....... |

Lol I very much doubt it would have saved the band but it is a nice thought. |

yea, by 69 they were starting to get pissed off with eachother to the point that a tour may have just given them more reason to go their seperate ways. if brian was alive, then they couldve lasted a little longer maybe...but they wouldve fallen harder then they did. |

I think that was pretty much Paul's idea. That got truncated into a single show filmed. Which got morphed into a "behind the scenes" look at the Beatles rehearsing for the single show. Which turned out to be a better idea on paper than reality.
It always seemed to me that George had the most justified reason to quit. They don't even record "All Things Must Pass" for crap like "Dig It." What's wrong with this picture? |

I think if the Beatles would have toured back in 69 it WOULDN'T have saved the band since the personal & professional tension was too high between John & Paul but their playing on the rooftop in LIB proves they were still solid. |

I agree with this. |

Paul McCartney had the same idea: small unannounced concerts here and there. But I think it was impossible. Even if The Beatles had used another name, the rumour would have spread very quickly and these concerts should be impossible again. I'm not sure whether it should have saved them as a band for a couple of more years. They were drifting apart anyway. |
