Geddy Lee has possibly the best vocals in all of rock. Neil Peart contributed SO much more than the average drummer, and Alex Lifeson combines the rapid fire assault of Hendrix with the emotional sound in his solos. Also, well common today, Rush were the first group to combine truly heavy rock with prog. Also, in a decade where pop materialism was important and employing any style that was popular, they mocked it by employing a mock-reggae sound in the hard rock classic Spirit Of The Radio. Such simplistic metaphors fill their songs, particularly on The Tree, where the metaphor is so simplistic that its more genius then the message itself. 2112 Overture employs such raw electric sound, total white noise, that it assaults the ears, and is neanrly unlistenable for the casual listener.
A fantastic group, they were for hard rock what Iron Maiden were to Heavy Metal: The Band That Made It Smart.

Great band. Incredible musicianship and Peart's lyrics are poetry. And Geddy has the perfect voice for Rush. Having listened to them for many years, I can't imagine anyone else doing the vocals.
I love RUSH, but I just bought the new R30 DVD and was so unimpressed by it, that I sent it to my buddy as a birthday present. I was hoping for way more older footage and after three or four tunes of the band sounding the exact same, it kind of lost its luster. Oh well.
