Two versions of this were a hit - the original British one by Amen Corner, and the American one by The American Breed. I find the American version infinately superior - in fact one of my favourite 60's tracks. Amen Corner also hit my top ten with Paradise (is half as nice). Interesting how a song can be reworked.
I'm not sure i've heard the version (or anything for that matter) by Amen Corner, but I love the American Breed version.
The Amen Corner version is quite boppy. You've not heard "Paradise(is half as nice)"? Number one in the UK. The singer Andy Fairweather later worked with Eric Clapton and Roger Waters. Apparently The American Breed singer did an "Oh Darling" and deliberately wore out his voice to get that menacing growl. Just noticed that both versions came out in '68. Not sure who came first now. Will have to check it out
