Steve Morse Alex Lifeson Rick Nielsen Shawn Colvin Allan Holdsworth Adrian Belew Vernon Reid Joe Walsh to name but a few...
Absolutely with you for Joe Walsh. I like Rush, but never rated Lifeson that much. Vernon Reid is on one of Santana's albums. He plays fast on it. Is speed a thing for Vernon Reid? Never heard of the other guys.
I think Jeff Beck is a celebrated axe wielder, he just hasn't 'made it' in a commercial sense like his contemporaries. "There and Back" is one of my favorite albums.
Underrated? I've never seen a top ten list without Jeff Becks name on it.
Steve Lukather from TOTO is underrated. He rarely gets mentioned and he's done some incredible stuff.
Amen, Bruthuh. Everyone thinks that he was in TOTO and it was pop music, but get him solo and he SMOKES. If anyone wants an incredible guitar CD, pick up 'No Subscriptions-Live in Osaka'. It's him and Larry Carlton (another incredible guitar player that hardly gets mentioned) and they just kick a**. There is a 13 minute version of Jeff Beck's 'The Pump' that is mind-boggling. It's a little late now, but another super cool album by Lukather is his 'Santamental' Christmas album with other greats like Slash and Eddie VH. Great choice Tkitna.
Lita Ford isn't a 'great' guitar player unless Mairi wanted to include her as a female entry so it wasn't a fraternity of male players. If that's the case, Nancy Wilson from Heart should be on the list, she's a fine musician, and my baby, Shawn Colvin plays with tunings that are so out there, its like she's mastered a dozen instruments on one guitar.
I know a lot of people who don't know this guy, unless they've seen the last waltz...and yes...there are some people out there who have not seen the last waltz:
Robbie Robertson
but i dunno if he fits cause he is popular, but not like according to all the lists and stuff...anyways
Stephen Stills doesn't get near the credit he deserves. I heard "Bluebird" the other day and he's amazing. He's also got a great interplay with Neil Young on so many songs.
What about Pete Townshend, The Edge, Brian May, and David Gilmour? And does anyone even remember Stevie Ray Vaughan? I don't here his name much anymore.
