On the anniversary of George's death this past year I noticed that there was no tribute for him in the newspaper like there was for John I was VERY upset about that. Okay I know it's been twenty-five years since John has died and I know that he died shockingly but the media still could have done a tribute for George too. To me it seems as if the media forgot about George and I'm upset about it. It just wasn't fair to me. George should have gotten a tribute too.
Absolutely agree. And, if Lennon is remembered largely for his peace and humanity pleas, if anything George was more into it than John. There was no new compilation album after George passed away. But, I think I recall that being deliberate, because some interested party, maybe George himself, didn't want it commercialised.
I can certainly understand that but I'm sure George would have appreciated being remembered by doing a tribute for him.
And when I went to the library the one day a librarian told me that there was SIX new books about John Lennon and I was slightly annoyed about that. I ordered one new book about George because it was the ONLY new book about him. There's enough books about John, I think they should concentrate on George a little more too.
Yes, agree again. I think it's the manner of John's sad death that is behind it. If, heaven forbid, George had died in that knife attack, maybe he would have been remembered better! IMO, it shouldn't really work that way. Of course, to go over familiar ground again, George became as talented as John and Paul towards the end of the 60s. He should be remembered better. Last year's Live 8 can be traced back to Concert For Bangladesh of course.

Let's see this November (5th anniversary) ... George's family is not Yoko (thanks, God .. or whatever) but I hope there will be another album of George's stuff in near future ... it's up to Olivia and Dhani.
I wont EVER forget - and that's all that matters to me.
Same here.
Taking it a little further though, George really was never one for the spotlight too much. Yes, he made records, but never toured to back them up. How many times did he tour after the Beatles? Concert for Bangladesh and 92' in Japan. Thats pretty much it. Sure he had the Wilburys afterwards (and I always felt he was the main attraction in that band even more so than Dylan). He was a quite, keep to myself type of person and this is the results of that. he'll never be forgotten, but he may just not be remembered as much.

He toured in 1974 backing Dark Horse (the first who tour in America after the split). Ravi was on that boring and unsuccessful tour too.
We should remember that John didn't tour or made so many records.

Of course your right about 74' and thats also true about John, but he kept more in the public eye with all his political bullshit and so forth. The funny thing is that when my kids were really young and I was teaching them about the Beatles, George was the one that they always forgot. Why is that? Oh well.
George's place in history is more than secure. No one will ever forget George. The reality is that people concentrate more on a certain occasion or event on 'significant' anniversaries: 5 years/10 years, etc., it's more of a milestone then. On December 8, 1984, there wasn't any fanfare for John. I was in New York then, and the papers just had a picture of a handful of fans standing outside the Dakota. There wasn't any extraordinary publicity of it. If anything, George is more appreciated now than ever. Just because they don't mark every year of his passing with tons of fanfare or box sets or whatever, hardly means he has been forgotten. I don't know why things in the Beatle world move so slowly, but they do. All of his Dark Horse releases should have been remastered and re-released by now, but we will have to wait, and it will be worth it.
Does it really matter if he received a tribute or not. We didn't forget about him and, in the end, isn't that really what should count. Front page article tributes mean nothing considering only Beatles fans, who would remember the day regardless, would bother to read and care about it. I think just as many people were affected by the anniversary of George's passing as there were with Lennon's.

The February issue of ICE Magazine has confirmation from Dhani and Olivia Harrison that a new George Harrison boxset will be released this year.
