George isn't forgotten... here are some of my thoughts...
I don't think we should compare John's death to George's b/c (and i'm just saying the truth I have no intention to sound rude or mean at anytime b/c everyone knows my love for George) George knew his time was running out, John was just taken with know reason, with know warning... and that is more of a shock... and it was 25 years... which I guess is bigger most people say than 5...
but on the other hand of that comment I think anybody who contrbiuted that much to the music industry and so much more should be celebrated during the 5th year or 7th or 122nd!
And I mean I don't think George is or was the kind of person who wanted the attention on him good or bad... and he probably doesn't even want it on him now, even if he isn't physically here....
But my "personal" oppinion... George would never be forgotten as long as there are people who love him and people who love The Beatles and what they were and what they are... respect there memory and honor there future... whether it be on this planet or in the heavens...!!!!

Hey Welcome The Swine to the forums! Hope you enjoy them!
I will never forget George, i miss him soooo much!! Strange how i never met the man & never around when the fabs were.. well, Fab! & yet him & his music means so much to me!
HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO THE WHITE ALBUM! you say its your birthday!
still, george will be the most forgettable beatle. the beatles will be mostly remembered by the names of john lennon and paul mccartney, there is no doubt about that. people might remember that funny drummer they had. but in about hundred years from now, people will struggle to come up with the fourth name of the beatles.

That doesn't sound like the opinion of a true fan The Swine: "george will be the most forgettable beatle.... people might remember that funny drummer they had". !!!
I can see Swine's point of view. George is the one people tend to forget today, so I can see that being true in the future. Fans will know, but the general public will probably forget. The thing is, George's focus from about '65 on was to actively run from the limelight. He became the Quiet Beatle because he was fed up with the mania. When the Dark Horse tour premiered, he denied the press interviews, no backstage passes, no photographers. This really pissed them off! He wanted to play music, but as a musician, not as a famous person. So he set out this impossible goal for himself, to play without being "ex-Beatle George", with mixed results.
I like to think that George will be remembered for his other achievements, such as being the first to present a huge rock-n-roll charity event and to introduce the Western world to what we now know as "world music". (Or popularize it, I should say, along with Eastern thought. Everytime you go to a yoga class, you can thank George.) His place in the history books should be secure on that basis alone.
As for the Beatles, I think they still will be played 100 years from now, and I think that's amazingly cool. Well done, fellows! Congratulations to all of you, whether John Q. Public remembers your name or not!
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison
Well I agree with swine the major driving force behind their success was the Lennon/McCartney songwriting partnership, I also think that an equally important factor was the four distinct people within the band. This was (and still is?) unique for a band. I very much believe that there might not have been Beatlemania without that. And that is the period for which they will be remembered. So in the future people will write their little essays people and more focus on the Lennon/McCartney thing, in the popular imagination they will always be John Paul George and Ringo from '64 and '65. They might struggle with the names, but the band will always be remembered for those four distinct persona blended into one big moptoppy thing.
