I have been reading some retrospective reviews of the concerts, and they all seem to agree that Leon Russell was the main highlight of the shows. Did he really take the stage from George, Ringo, Billy Preston and Bob Dylan? He certainly leaves a big impression from watching the film, but I've never thought along the lines of him stealing the spotlight.
leon russell was quite popular back in the day but to say he was the top is funnier than saying dylan was....it was a flock of stars that caused the people to go not any one person...in my opinion....
Leon Russell's 'solo' seems to be longer than Billy Preston and Ringo's section combined. Although Bob Dylan does have a 'special guest' spot, perhaps it's Leon's overall performance that tends to dominate when you watch the film. On refelection, maybe it would have been better if George had not allowed solo performances, which I presume were used to pad out the length of the shows and an incentive to appear.
Mmm... I know what you mean, but I'm not sure that Ringo, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell etc.. needed showcases at the time. Except perhaps for Badfinger.
