Okay, I know, their lyrics weren't exactly stellar. Nonetheless, I think ABBA made some really excellent pop music. Great melodies and instrumentation, plus the two girls are very talented singers (the brunette is better IMO). Another thing I like about their music is that it's very layered, yet it still is all centered around one little hook. Does anyone like them? I know Sandra does.
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.
When it made a resurgence in the late nineties I fought it was great.
They had a resurgence, alright. Momma-Mia was successful on Broadway for years.
Noteworthy was their appearance on the first Saturday Night Live Show aired in 1975. They lip-synched Waterloo during a skit where the cruise ship they were performing on was sinking. The special stage they were on began tilting and water flooded the stage. They kept on singing (lip-synching). They didn't mind poking fun at themselves at all.
I don't remember ever seeing that! I would have liked to though. And yes Mairi, I do like some ABBA songs. It took me time though. I hated them originally. Like so many. They're the best at what they do I guess. Which I don't really know what that is. I think the brunette ended up marrying a prince or something. Wonder what ever happened to the rest.

Well, the guys are Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus and in later years they were responsible for the music (and idea?) of Chess for instance. The blond singer is called Agnetha Faltskog I believe. After Abba's breakup she had a few minor hits. The brunette is Frida and she had one solohit 'I Know There's Something Going On', with Phil Collins on drums. I think she lost her daughter or something like that. Benny used to be married to Frida and Björn to Agnetha, who, by the way, has long luscious legs and sexy feet.

Here are some video captures, Sandra. It was the fifth SNL which aired on 11/15/75. I think there's a Best of Saturday Night Live DVD out there which has this skit on it.
Oh, has anyone here seen the ABBA movie? I forget exactly the plot but mainly it involves them running around town while their songs play. It's incredibly cheesy and bad. I love it.
