Every time I listen to this song, I am blown away by how genius it is. And Paul was only in his early twenties when he wrote it. For a group that was at the time considered "shallow teenager music" this is an incredible feat. You just don't see people today writing like that, making songs like that.
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.
Yeah it's a great song, I wouldn't be surprised if it is related to John's bigger than Jesus remark from earlier in the year.
I find it amazing that no matter what instruments they used or what style they played they still sounded like 'The Beatles'. That's a testimony to their greatness I suppose.
Yes, when John sang "The Only Thing you done was 'Yesterday'" on "How Do you Sleep?" he was way off target.
I used to really favor John over Paul, but now I see that Paul actually led the band in some new directions first while John stayed more in the Rock format - "Revolver", with the exception of "Tomorrow Never Knows" really shows this. Too bad they couldn't work together longer. Oh well.
In the Beatles Anthology, Paul talks about finding gravestones for an "Eleanor Rigby" a few feet from one for "MacKenzie". He thinks it may have come from his subconscious since he used to hang around there with John. Strange.
That's another reason we need new mixes: Most pubs I go in have one speaker in the corner of the bar and another in the snooker room. Screw the mix-down process!

I complained to a DJ once, because for some reason he was using only the left-hand channel for both speakers and this was really obvious when he played older Beatles songs - you would hear either only the music or only the singing. He got really annoyed when I pointed this out to him! But how stupid do you have to be to not realise it yourself?! Surely you'd wonder where the singing had disappeared to?!!!!
^ haha. When me and my mate are going to uni on the train - we each have an earphone each - so sometimes someone gets more bass and less vocals etc - especially how he has Revolver on his mp3!
I absolutely adore this song!!!! Now I can't resist the temptation to listen to it right now.. Such great lyrics, such a beautiful music, and a lot to say. I only have to disagree with the "shallow teenager music" line, I dont think that they were considered one.

This Boy is the worst stereo song. It really is terrible they put it out like that.
Please Please Me and With The Beatles had the same sort of stereo mix (apart from a few tracks), ie vocals right and music left. But proper stereo mixes were made for their subsequent albums up to Rubber Soul.
Rubber Soul was mostly mixed the same way as their first 2 albums (vocals right and music left) probably due to the time constraints placed on them to release the album in time for the UK Christmas market.
As far as I recall, This Boy wasn't mixed in proper (not fake) stereo until the compilation "Love Songs" was commissioned in the late seventies.

Yeah, on all but a few tracks of PPM and WTB. The vinyl version of Rubber Soul has the best seperation - the CD was remixed with the vocals slightly more central in the stereo mix.
