I heard Del Shannon's version of From Me To You for the first time the other day - I was really surprised at how true it was to The Beatles' version!!

Anyone else heard it?

It's been a while since I've heard it. Cannot really recall it right now. Was it really the first Beatles cover? I thought Do You Want To Know A Secret by Billy J Kramer was first, but I might very well be mistaken.

Hmm - the high vocal part "anything I can do" is a tad dodgy ... plus the "From me to you" parts make me laugh. But it is very similar to the original.

Still, why is it not as good as the Beatles' version?

For me it's a personal choice over the lead vocal. I just find it a tad banal. It just doesn't  have the freshness that Lennon & Mccartney bring to the vocals - i.e  when they harmonise the "Want" and "Do" of the verses as well as the "From me to You" parts. It seems that Del Shannon's singing is slightly faster (?) plus the drum roll after "and keep you satisfied" is poor in comparison to old Ringo's attempts. Oh, and the fade out again just seems alittle ineffective. But I don't think it's a "bad" cover.

Yoiks - I totally agree. Those high bits are cringe-inducing. But to be fair to Del it's hard to accept anything other than the original when that's all you've heard for 40 years. Nice try.
