your thoughts

i know that the vietnam brought about a crapload of anti-war and protest songs. now we have a new war and a new influx of anti-war and protest songs. most suck a** with the exception of such veterns as Neil Young. most of this seems like a cash in on a touchy subject. but i found the dixie chicks getting the response that the beatles "bigger than jesus" comment got because they made an anti-bush, anti-war album at the start of iraq and now did another protest album and it made top of the charts, its hilarious.

what do you guys think about all this new protest song themes

Check out the recent work by Jello Biafra and Dave Mustaine. Ice T's got some pretty cool anti-war/anti-bush mess too.

Wasn't Born in the USA by Springsteen an anti-war song? Took me years to learn that....Infact, I thought it was so pro American it actually put me off Springsteen full stop!! lol My mistake.

Theres plenty of artists singing anti-war songs...It's surely a part of what they are all about....free speech an all that jazz.

Massive Attack & Jamiroquai done it on the first gulf war and done rather well. Look hard enough and there are plenty....war is a constant thing to write about.....unfortunately.

it just seems that alot of this is just cashing in on an unpopular war. or trying to get that same "vibe" you had during nam.

but neil young's is really good.

Twas a common mistake. Didn't Reagan's lot use it during an election, thinking the same as Apps?

Still, I'm regarding Apps' IQ higher than Mr Bush's.

You can never have enough anti-Bush songs. That's my opinion.

true, but doesnt it make you a little quesy knowing that some are doing it for the sake of cashing in on an instant seller? it all comes down to the motives of musicians.

In this case I don't really care about the motives. The end justifies the means.

It's normally melody and vibe that hit me generally at first....exact lyrics come later....normally I think anyway.

Neil Young's new protest album is pretty good. I'm surprised he released it so soon after his last album.
