I kinda pinched this idea from PC from his Fith Beatles Forum!! LOL!

But... what was the last CD or record (or possibly download) you purchased and would you recommend to the rest of us and why?

The last CD I purchased was Dressy Bessy's self titled (or eponymous even!!) album  - I don't think there's a duff track on it! Check out The Things That You Say That You Do - I played that over and over for an hour! Awesome!

So... what about you - what was the last piece of music you bought? Over to you...

Johan - Thx Jhn
Johan is a Dutch band which is influenced by a well-known band from Liverpool. Definately worth a listen. And pimping these guys cause they're from the same town as me.

mine i think was best of Dire Straights haha, but i really cant remember...im downloading all the time..the last tracks i paid to download (via i-tunes) though were:

Badly Drawn Boy- four leaf clover (he's awsome)
Belle & Sebastian- fox in the snow
The apples in sterio-i can't believe
Tim Buckley-the earth has broken
Tim buckley-devil eyes..

so yeah pretty random mix

the dire straights mix is pretty much worth it for sultans of swing and brothers in arms on their own...and the other tracks are just great ones"!

Oh, but I do have The Andrews Sisters! I'm not sure about their skirts, but they do have great harmonies! On the attick I have an album or two, maybe three. Some people like Frank Sinatra, others like The Andrews Sisters.

I went to the pawn shop and bought the following:

Rory Gallagher Irish Tour '74
Rory Gallagher Top Priority
David Bromberg Midnight on the Water
Dan Crary Lady's Fancy
A couple Mozart CDs

I like the Rory best so far, but they're all listenable.

The mono version on vinyl of Surrealistic Pillow is supposed to be superior to the Stereo--much less echo.  Still, what a great album.  "Coming Back to Me" "Today" wow!  Great songs for a female voice.

Hard Rain is way underrated--"Idiot Wind" is worth the price alone.

I've also had the privilege to be in the Enactron Truck that was used for the mobile recording.  Too bad it was twenty years after they were recording Bob with it.

It's pretty cool.  All this vintage equipment in mahogany cabinets (at least I think they are).  It allowed "live" performers to overdub flaws immediately after a show when they were still "in voice."

Amazing how many records were recorded with this.  I just bought an album of David Bromberg and noticed that they had used the truck.

Brian Ahern (who produced Emmylou) owns it and Donivan Cowart was the main engineer.  They were pioneers for their day for recording in houses (real places) instead of studios.  Now everybody's doing it thanks to digital technology.

I bought it a few months back but keep forgetting to mention it: JJ Cales To Tulsa and Back (2004).  To my mind it's just as good, if not better, than the Dylan albums from the same period.

From my local charity shop - an excellent condition (maybe mint) Venus and Mars vinyl complete with posters and stickers for £3.99.
And its much better than I remember - quite Bowie-esque in place. A good listen.

The new Mission Of Burma album, "The Obliterati"

I didn't know they were still a band! I thought they quit 20 years ago. I was blown away when I realized they had a new album and had even recorded one in 2004. I think this made my year.

Nice choice, G.

Got any other Zevon records?

My favorite is Warren Zevon, the first real record.  "Desperadoes Under the Eaves" always does it for me.
