Syd Barrett unfortunately won't get the credit he deserves. Many tried to be psychedelic. and I think if you have to 'try' than it's contrived. Syd WAS psychedelia personified. Unfortunately, with the chemistry of his makeup, wasn't able to handle it. But, he, I think even more than the Beatles or anyone, made what trippy music was, created a psychedelicatessan more than anyone. And this isn't any posthumous kudos, he made music/noise and God bless him. I hope he's found his peace, because without him, there would be no Floyd or countless other remoras.
it just eludes me why everyone thinks without him there would be no flyod...thats bullshit...its like say the stones without jones wouldn't have made it....a bona fide crock....there are talented people that some bands need for a springboard and i can see neither is in case of the stones or floyd...and besides bicycle the song gives me daymares....syd had talent but started abusing it..some it got took away....and i ain't dead bashing neither...
I gave him kudos, but still don't like his music. Maybe his removal made way for David Gilmour and thus, Pink Floyd. Just circumstance and timing. Not unlike Pete Best and Ringo, for lack of better comparison.

He left his mark on the history of rock & roll, as the founder & leader of Pink Floyd, but he was stoned out of his mind mostly, which caused him to go crazy & he became a recluse before his death.
I want you, I want you so bad babe. I want you, I want you so bad. It's driving me mad, it's driving me mad.
