Van Halen is one of the last great rock bands, that had a huge impact on my life,  during my youth, way back in the 70's.  Eddie's explosive guitar virtuosity & Dave's bad a** attitude & showmanship, as well as their great classic rock albums, especially the first 6, is what it's all about.  I saw VH live at the old Charlotte Coliseum(still there, new name) on 2/1/84 with Autograph as the openig act, which I will never forget.  It was one of the coldest days of the year, with my fingers getting numb holding my ticket, but they rocked out giving the fans a ballsy, blistering show. I think Sammy Hagar did a great job as frontman, even though he's no David Lee Roth & For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is my favorite album from that era.  I don't think there's going to be a reunion of the original Van Halen anytime soon, especially after the 96 debacle, but some fans do sadly.  I do expect Eddie Van Halen to release his first official solo album before he's 60 & as far as I'm concerned VH is history with only the memories.

Eddie's out of  his mind now. One of the crew members on their last debacle of a tour said Eddie will be dead in 5 years. He's writing music for porn movies now. Sammy and Michael Anthony won't have anything to do with him. He's back on the Bottle which is why Valerie said Adios.

he's writing music for porn music?! its a shame he wasted his last years though, he was such a guitarist in his time, but he pretty much lost it and became an a**, and in 1993 he got drunk and started being racist to nirvana member Pat Smear. hasnt he got some kind of condition/ilness or something?

yeah he's been writing music for a friend, who's a "B movie" director or something...but VH music was kinda "dirty" anyways...their music is great, from any era...EVH has made many public appereances recently, and some are even saying that he's on talking terms with DLR, and supposedly VH is thanked is Hagar's new solo album...I think he's probably the greatest guitarist in my book, and he'll be back in full form...

I'm not expecting a Van Halen reunion anytime soon after the last tour, but I expect Eddie to release his first official solo album before he's 60.  Him doing some music for a porn movie is cool in a way & the rock & roll of VH was kind of dirty. I agree.

Like so many other bands they fit the time they played in. David Lee Roth "Showman" Rock Sexy like "Plant " in his prime! Loud thunderous rock songs that shook the rafters of the buildings they played in! Unfortunatley Van Halen took a dip and became more grown up with the arrival of Sammy Hagger. We will not even go there with the guy from Extreme? They broke the mold when D.L.R. departed on bad terms! I heard Eddie was getting a hip replaced oh how the mighty have fallen.

Eddie had his hip replacement operation a few years ago & his cancer of the tongue is gone I have heard, so he seems to be doing alright these days apple sauce.  I'm not expecting a reunion of the original Van Halen anytime soon, but old fans like myself have the memories & their timeless rock classics.

Speaking about Van Halen...

I like a couple of their songs, but I think their schtick was too much of "Look what we can do with our instruments" and not enough focus on rhthmn or lyrics. But that's just my opinion. Ice Cream Man is a fave of mine 'cause my dad used to sing it to me all the time when I was a kid. (Yeah, I know, go ahead and laugh...)

Not every band can write lyrics as deep as Dylan. They played to their strengths, and one of their strenghts was Eddie's outstanding talent on the guitar. I think you need bands like Van Halen and AC/DC. They're just pure, raw ROCK music. Nothing wrong with that. Anyway, I love their first few albums up 'til 1984 which sucked. Van Hagar doesn't even count. I hate Sammy Hagar. He's beyond annoying. Anyway, I hear a Van Halen reunion is in the works with Roth. I know people from my generation will be ecstatic if that ever happens. But now Michael Anthony is no longer in the band and Eddie's son is! What's with those Van Halen guys? They can't seem to get along with anyone outside the family.

From Wiki:
The David Lee Roth era remains Van Halen's most critically successful period, having influenced many eighties rock musicians who followed. The band's top selling albums to date are their 1978 debut and 1984. Both albums have reached diamond status, having sold over 10 million copies each, and are both regarded as milestones in rock and roll music, ushering in artistic innovations that were widely emulated throughout the 1980s (The Van Halen track "Runnin' with the Devil" and 1984's "Jump" are listed as two of the top 500 most influential songs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). The band's second and third productions, Van Halen II and Women and Children First, each reached #6 on the charts. After this, every subsequent Van Halen album would breach the top 5 spot on the pop charts.

The Van Halen track "Eruption" introduced the rock and roll world to a new soloing technique called tapping, a technique utilizing both left and right hands on the guitar neck (tapping also exists and did for a long time in its more traditional one-handed form, involving just hammer-ons and pull-offs). Other musicians had developed two-hand playing techniques during the 1950s, and Steve Hackett of Genesis used tapping extensively in the early 1970s, but Van Halen's technique was something else — a percussive, highly amplified barrage of notes and effects. Nothing like it had ever been heard on record. "Eruption" immediately propelled Eddie Van Halen to immense heights of popularity among guitar players worldwide (articles about Eddie Van Halen's style and technique remain a staple of guitar magazines). According to folklore, before the release of the first album, Eddie would hide his technique from imitators by playing his solos with his back to the audience. A music critic praised "Eruption" once for its powerful impact and compact musical structure, by labelling it "The Soundtrack to World War III".

Eddie also introduced a never before seen technique in the instrumental "Cathedral". This technique involved Eddie hammering notes on the fretboard with his left hand while simultaneously rolling the volume knob off and on with his right hand. He did two takes, and the volume knob froze completely at the end of the second take due to the heat generated from rolling it on and off at such a great speed. Many beginning hard rock and heavy metal bands of the era have testified that, when trying out new guitarists, being able to cover the song was often the audition criteria asked of the guitarist.

Van Halen also introduced the guitar world to the band's signature "Brown Sound," a nickname given to, among other things, the sonic result of Eddie's guitar/amp combination and technique. With Templeman's warm production, Van Halen produced a distinctive tone sought by other musicians.

Yeah I heard about his son joining...it's all cool if EVH does a solo album and his son plays on it, but if one day there his a reunion with Roth , Michael Anthony should be part of it...I'm even sure Roth would insist to have Anthony in on it.

just read this minutes ago...!!!!!

from melodicrock.com

VAN HALEN AND ROTH - FINALLY IN 2007:
No more teasing. Never tease where Van Halen is concerned...I have information from a highly placed source that Van Halen will likely tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth as frontman.

Negotiations are currently underway to re-unite Van Halen with their original frontman for a tour in 2007 that will take in Amercia and possibly other territories. While nothing in the world of Van Halen is set until the band walk out on stage, I can confirm that negotiations between all parties have been underway for some time, trying to put together a big 2007 re-union tour.

One would presume the tour will feature classic VH era songs only. What I do not yet know is whether this plan includes exiled bass player Michael Anthony. Perhaps Wolfgang will play bass? I'm told these questions will be answered shortly.
Van Halen last toured in 2004 with Sammy Hagar, but the tour ended on a sour note and Hagar has not talked to Eddie Van Halen since.
What I also know is that there will be no new Van Halen release to go with the tour, such as The Best Of Both World's in 2004. There is no plans for a new compilation or a new studio album - just the tour.
More details when available.

I'm not planning on seeing anybody live again since I did my thing as a fan a long time ago.  I do know if there is a reunion tour of the original VH next year, it's going to be huge, probably overtaking McCartney with rock fans lennon-legend.

Can you truly be that dumb? VH couldnt overtake McCartney at the height of their popularity, how are they going to now?

The whole reunion crap is going to be a disaster. How many shows before Eddie self destructs? Five maybe six? Regardless, we all know its going to happen and they'll all want to kill each other. This is getting worse than Guns And Roses for gods sake.

I have listened to the Band, I like some of their classics tkitna, but what makes you think I never did in the first place.  I like Up On Cripple Creek, The Weight, Life Is A Carnival & Stage Fright.  I do think The Last Waltz is overrated as a concert documentary since Gimme Shelter, Woodstock & The Song Remains The Same are much better.  Probably because Martin Scorcese directed it since it's only average to me & I have heard he's going to be doing the Stones next concert documentary as well, which I plan on seeing when it's released.

Eddie Van Halen has brought his 15-year-old son, Wolfgang, into Van Halen as the veteran rock band's new bass player, a spokesperson told Billboard.com.

Father and son, along with Eddie's drummer brother Alex, have been rehearsing for a 2007 tour, but it is unknown who will serve as the band's vocalist. (Wolfgang's substitution for original bass player Michael Anthony was first reported by news Web site TMZ.com a week ago.)

Rumors continue to swirl that original singer David Lee Roth, who was replaced by Sammy Hagar in the mid-1980s, will return to the fold, despite years of enmity. Roth, who has recently worked as a radio DJ and a paramedic, told Billboard.com in May that he saw it "absolutely as an inevitability."

No details have been provided about the departure of Anthony, a fan favorite who generally kept out of the internecine warfare in the band.

As for the musical acumen of Wolfgang, Eddie Van Halen enthused to Howard Stern in September, "If I excel at the speed of sound, he excels at the speed of light. This kid is just a natural."

Van Halen is one of nine acts on the ballot for the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

I knew Eddie wasn't getting along with VH bassist Michael Anthony with rumors & he probably wanted him out of the band years before.  It's cool his son Wolfgang will be joining the band for this possible reunion tour of Eddie Van Halen & David Lee Roth next year.  If Van Halen is ever inducted into the RNRHOF, since I'm not expecting it this time around, I expect to see only Eddie & brother Alex on the stage.  VH has always been about Eddie, will always be about Eddie, no matter who the frontman is at any given moment.

I want you, I want you so bad babe.  I want you, I want you so bad.  It's driving me mad, it's driving me mad.

Well, he certainly has the same body as Michael Anthony. All he has to do is grow a beard and it will be like he never left. Anyway, it won't be a Van Halen reunion without Michael, so Roth should just say forget it. What's the point. I'm starting to wonder about Eddie's people skills.
