One only has to sit down and listen to the early Beatle albums to hear how pure their music sounded. No layering which makes the music sound "over produced"? The harmony along with the simple straight forward music that accompanyed it was their true talent. Songs like Anna, Chains, Devil In Her Heart, Please Mr. Postman, I Call Your Name, You Really Got A Hold On Me,Baby It's You, Boys etc all had this sound the clear, pure and unobstructed. Although these songs were short and simple they were very very catchy and easy to remember for their fans! It may have been their crowning moment in music.

It Won't Be Long was one of my favourites since the early days back in the seventies.

Beatles For Sale is a great classic rock album in its own right that's underrated for some reason & defines the band back in the early 60's.  It was recorded faster than their previous ones at the time during the height of Beatlemania.  I don't think they would have recorded it at all because it seems so rushed by the record company.

I want you, I want you so bad babe.  I want you, I want you so bad.  It's driving me mad, it's driving me mad.

Sorry, but I can't agree. Please Please Me was recorded quicker wasn't it? And BFS defines The Beatles beatlemania sound??? More so than WTB or AHDN????? I need to know more Wayne
And Rubber Soul was also a rush job for the Xmas market and they managed to knock out a classic (and they must have been just as tired in 65 as 64). All in the interest of some good hearty conversation mind.
I'm still believing that the major problem with BFS is not the tiredness or speed of recording, but the fact that their rock'n'roll covers no longer sat well with their original material. It was an old format that had worked well on previous albums (WTB has 6 covers, despite the fact they were writing more hits than they knew what to do with) but  desperately needed changing. Which. of course, they did.

Pity they didn't rush a few more albums in addition to the ones we've got.

I always thought BFS was recorded faster than Please Please Me & With The Beatles since Beatlemania at its heights Kevin.

Please Please Me was recorded in 585 minutes.

And, as The Rutles say, the second one took even longer!

I think PPM was done in a day. RS took about as long as BFS. Speed of recording can't be the reason.

The whole point is all the early Beatle songs had a puritry in the vocals and simple music that gave them that undefinable sound that everyone flocked to like moths on a light bulb!
