I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! THE TRAVELLING WILBURYS @ NUMBER 1! It's amazing as its not even new, this is such great news & a wonderful tribute to George & Roy!
It's been a Hard Days Night & i've been working like a dog!
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007

Is it just me or did Roy Orbison always seem the odd one out in the band? I really like The Wilbury's, and I'll be getting the box set just as soon as I've found out that I haven't won the competition I entered! But take the single sleeve here; there's George, Jeff, Tom and Bob looking a bit unkempt, bit wild west, and there's Roy with his dark glasses looking like he's just had a make-over! I don't know, I think they would have worked just as well without him. No disrespect, I just think he's out of place.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
How can he be out of place if he was there? The Traveling Wilburys were there to laugh at themselves it was no serious thing, nice late 80's Pop and Roll. Everyones tounge in cheek.
They all look like a bunch of weird guys exorcising a mid life crisis anyway.

Hmm, I see what you mean. I never did get Roy and his tinted glasses thing. I'm dead ignorant about this; did Roy have lots of eye problems, that he needed these special glasses? I've never seen him without them.
George really wanted Roy in the band. When they were writing "Handle With Care", George specifically wrote the bridge to showcase Roy. I think I read this story in Tom Petty's biography; he tells a funny story about after George decided they were going to form the Wilburys. He and Tom (at least, Jeff might have been with them) raced to the town where Roy was playing his next show on tour. They cornered him backstage and floated the Wilbury idea to him, and he loved it and accepted. All through his show they were digging each other in the ribs from the wings and giggling, "He's in our band. Hee!"
Good luck on winning your contest! When will you know?

Definately an eclectic bunch of people. I always thought Mr Lynne was the odd one out. To me ELO just didn't have the gravitas (is that the right word?) as the others. Though Living Thing was a superb single. I think Roy wore the glasses because it made him look cool (he's a bit of a dog without them apparantly)
