I don't think that's true. How do we know how they behaved alone? They lived a lot out of the public gaze - wasn't like they were party animals going out and getting snapped people. All we really know about pre-divorce McCartney is what he wanted us to know. And it's not as if the allegations involve him beating her black and blue.
It's a bit scary that you guys make such presumptions of innocence and assume to know so much about someone. And are so ready to proclaim her as some kind of lying fantasist. Women have been trying to battle against these prejudices for generations now.
The answer is we don't know.

How would we have heard about it? Do you know if the guy 6 doors down from you is abusive to his wife? No, because she wouldn't go out until the swelling went down. Or very likely he beat her somewhere that wasn't visable. Very often women who are abused by their husband's don't tell a soul. Even their family's don't know. They won't leave and they won't report them.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but you can't make assumptions.
