I think we did.  If there's one thing humans like its sex. In Australasia, the America's and the pacific Europeans came up against ethnic groups who's culture and appearance were as different as the neanderhals must have seemed to the cromagnams. They were described variously as savage, subhuman etc, we slaughtered and enslaved them, but we stll shagged them.

On Saturday she took me to The British Library to see their London History In Maps Exhibition and their Beatle display - set of handwritten lyrics (including a disturbingly bad "In My Life" first draft.) Then to Harrods for their excellent Rock Guitar exhibition -it would make you axe guys weep (and a stroll around the food halls - foodie heaven.) Then off down The Kings Road for a pint and a pizza then home in time for Match Of The Day. How can I not love this girl?

I heard that the theory was later discredited, but also heard that they did interbreed with humans because remains of humans and neanderthals were found together in Europe.

I wanted it to be a guy thing (it's the only guy thing I have). Same for The Beatlefest. I want to get drunk and talk about The B's with gay abandon.
The Neanderthal - red hair link is a persistant rumour. As far as I know no evidence has been found. If they had found that link that would mean we are descended (partly) and that would be BIG news. They found Neanderthal DNA last year and the last I heard it would take 2 years to decode.
