I'm a big CSNY fan, and I know The Eagles were based on CSNY, but I really think The Eagles did that kind of thing better, with more truly timeless songs.

The Eagles seemed more "commercial" then "CSNY"? I like the harmony of CSNY much better than the Eagles and I allways thought of them as more"country music" influenced then CSNY. The talent  of David Crosby, Steven Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young is so diverse you get a better group I feel.

CSN are surely the kings of harmony, though The Beatles come close.

I like them both equally as legendary groups with Woodstock & Life In The Fast Lane being two of my all time favorite rock classics.  I would have to say the Eagles because they never got any respect from critics back in the 70's & CSN&Y are overrated.

I want you, I want you so bad babe.  I want you, I want you so bad.  It's driving me mad, it's driving me mad.

I found here that Nash provided the hit singles. I always thought of him as the least member.

Then again Nash's songs were poppier.

If anyone's interested, there's a CSNY 'Radio' here:

http://csny.com/

They don't play the whole songs it seems however.

Its got to be C S N just going off there first albums ,its a masterpiece one of my alltime favourites. And what a smart move to get NEIL YOUNG on your next album.
HOTEL CALIFORNIA is a great song but thats about it for me with the eagles

But maybe that contributed to the split-up. I think there was a clash of egoes.

Found this on Wikipedia regarding a David Crosby song:

"Laughing" interestingly, was written as a reaction to his good friend George Harrison's single-minded pursuit of 'Gurus' who either claim, or are claimed by others to "...know what's going on".

Neil Young is great on his own. But CSN without him could do fine. If CSN broke up earlier because of heavier conflict of egoes then Young should never have joined, in retrospect. Everything they did after Deja Vu paled by comparison, though they certainly did some good stuff. But the vocals harmonies were rarely as good. The gap between Deja Vu and the second CSN album was too long. And on Daylight Again it seems they needed extra vocalists to make the vocal harmonies better. But I'm still a fan.

CSNY have never really been acknowledged in Britain. Pity that.
