Queen's 'Greatest Hits' Britain's favourite album Thursday November 16, 05:29 PM

LONDON (AFP) - Queen's "Greatest Hits" is the biggest-selling album of all time in Britain, according to the official UK Charts Company.

The Beatles' legendary album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was in second place while "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" by Britpop rockers Oasis came in third.

However, there was no place in the top 100 for albums by rock legends The Rolling Stones and folk hero Bob Dylan, punk stars The Sex Pistols or singers Sting and David Bowie.

Queen's 1981 compilation, the first of three "best ofs" from the British rock group, contains hits such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Another One Bites the Dust" and "We Will Rock You" and has sold 5.4 million copies here.

Albums by rock band Dire Straits, Swedish pop heroes Abba, prog rock group Pink Floyd, "king of pop" Michael Jackson and "queen of pop" Madonna round up the top 10.

Former Take That star Robbie Williams has the most albums in the top 100, with six.

He is followed by Oasis, Jackson and power ballad songstress Celine Dion with three albums each.

Newcomers James Blunt ("Back To Bedlam") and David Gray ("White Ladder") are both in the top 20.

Robson and Jerome, Jason Donovan, Maroon 5, Pink, Norah Jones, Craig David, Terence Trent D'Arby, Boyzone and the "South Pacific" soundtrack are among those keeping the likes of Dylan and the Stones out of the top 100.

"This is a chart made up of actual sales figures from the last 50 years," said a spokesman for the Official UK Charts Company.

"The best-selling album of all time in Britain has never been revealed before."

The company took six months to trawl through everything from 1950s hand-written till receipts to current chart sales to come up with the top 100 list.

Top 10:

1. "Greatest Hits" (1981), Queen -- 5.4 million

2. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1967), Beatles -- 4.8m

3. "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" (1995), Oasis -- 4.3m

4. "Brothers In Arms" (1985), Dire Straits -- 3.9m

5. "Gold: Greatest Hits" (1992), Abba -- 3.9m

6. "The Dark Side Of The Moon" (1973), Pink Floyd -- 3.7m

7. "Greatest Hits II" (1991), Queen -- 3.6m

8. "Thriller" (1982), Michael Jackson -- 3.5m

9. "Bad" (1987), Michael Jackson -- 3.5m

10. "The Immaculate Collection" (1990), Madonna -- 3.4m

Top 10:

1. "Greatest Hits" (1981), Queen -- 5.4 million

2. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1967), Beatles -- 4.8m

So remastered Sgt. Pepper would probably push it up to 1st place!!

Are you listening Apple?

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
