I love their lyrics, but sometimes they're just a little too MOR for me. Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On ( having a chilled out evening!) |

The Love album is brilliant. I'll pass on the Kansas though! |

I wouldn't say bland necessarily. Safe. I like to say: uneventful. |

Today I went out and bought REM's The Best Of REM and when I got it home, it was the wrong disc! There are two The Best Of REM albums. The one I thought I had was the 2003 one with a blue moon on the cover. In the shop they had put in another one with the same title, as far as I know released later, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the wrong one I was given was disappointing compared to this 2003 one. I noticed about half-way through that it was the wrong album (I don't know their music so well) and had the chance to notice that it's nothing on the 2003 compilation I went back to the shop for - which includes Man On The Moon, and Everybody Hurts.
Just an interesting little story, about a band with two compilations out with the same title! And, maybe to let anyone know which would be the best one to get if you are interested.
Sadly none of these comps include Shiny Happy People, a nice harking back to the sixties song. |

Recently: Why are they so underrated? Especially this one: What an incredible talent. I can't believe how his life ended. Playing crap bars hawking his latest CD. How the hell does something like that even end up happening??? Bums me out. Anyone ever see Festival Express when Joplin hangs all over him and as drunk or as high as he is he STILL looks mortified! Poor woman. |

Rods first four solo albums are excellent. Every Picture Tells A Story is one of my favourite albums. |

Well, it's a matter of opinion of course, but I think after 'Smiler' it's all shite! |

^ sure it's a matter of taste and opinion, but my favourite albums at the moment are "Smiler" and "Gasoline Alley" - very much like his 70s stuff. He's an underestimated singer and performer |

Gasoline Alley is excellent. I do think he sold his soul to the American market with Atlantic Crossing, and never turned back. |

The classic band stuff is great, but the Jericho album in 1991 (with Rick, Garth and Levon) is still pretty damned strong. Great vocals by Rick and Levon on "Blind Willie McTell"--one of the best Dylan covers ever. Danko was one helluva of bass player too. The live stuff like "Rock of Ages" is incredible. |

yeah, it's a pity. At least he sang a Macca song , think it's on "Smiler" and it's called "Mine for me". Happy belated to Rod, he turned 62 yesterday. |

I should check it out. I get in and out of the Band's music. They do fascinate me though. Their whole history and what they did at the time they did it. |
