There's something about this on the Anthology 'extras' dvd. Tomorrow will have to do!! |

I remember George wanting to appear and the director thinking that it was not appro pirate 'cos all their images in the clip were from the past (60s) or something like that ... the thing is that George played the ukelele in the song (the director said so) ... but the meaning of the man performing with a dog? ... I've got no clue ... A Hard Day's Night? possibly |

I think you'll find it's: Working Like A Dog. There was nothing any more enlightening on the dvd. All I know is the guy playing Uke is supposed to be George Formby. One of George's catch phrases was 'Turned out nice again' - something that John Lennon occasionally said - which is why that's Lennon saying it backwards at the end. But I can find no evidence that Formby ever took a dog on stage with him. |

It's got me wondering now though. There is a meaning for everything else on that vid! |

The dog always make me think of the dog on His Master's Voice records. The one looking into an old phonograph. There's a link to EMI and thus to the Beatles but it's a bit tenuous. George Formby, by the way, was born in Lancashire and didn't have to hide his accent to become successful. He was a good example for the fab four. |

I don't know - is the man and his dog a reference to Mr. Bojangles as follows?
He danced for throws at minstrel shows and county fairs Through out the south He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him Had traveled about His dog up and died, he up and died, after twenty years he still grieves
It was my first thought when I saw the pic.

Why, no, it has nothing to do with the Beatles whatever. That is an answer which should please you, Blue Meanie.
Is some nefarious eye keeping watch over this thread? Perhaps, from Scotland Yard at that? Tell me, it wasn't really Willie, was it? And Norman, too? Together - tell me explicitly, Councilor, were they seeking her? Yes, you know, her?
Her name I dare not speak lest I become a suspect myself. Yer not gonna smoke me out, too (or would that be 3?)!!
Actually, the man was Paul and the dog was John, Paul and Ringo. Nuff said. That should distract 'em, Chief!! |
