Opposites attract. Paul McCartney and Mariah Carey are rumoured to be the two guest judges for the finals of American Idols 6. Wonder what Wayne would think to see his two heroes getting together. Who knows what will be result of their meeting...

I can just see her doing an Oprah!!

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

Oh Paul. What on earth is behind this decision? And he's worried about his legacy? What does he think this will do for it? I'm through defending him and his weird inclinations!!

The land of fromage that is American Idol has already claimed Stevie Wonder. Now Paul too. It's a bit sad really.

I can't see anything wrong with it really. It's all a bit of fun and a chance for him to do a bit of damage control on his new wife-beater image. You go Paul, and give Mariah a good clip when you're off camera.

So did anyone watch American Idol auditions last night? They devote a hell of a lot of screen time to the 'bad' auditions but my God were they ever hilarious. Like that Cowardly Lion girl or the black guy who sang "My Heart Will Go On". lmfao.

If it's anything like the Xfactor this show has precious little to do with finding talent (they know they're most likely to come up with nothing more than a novelty one-hit wonder.) Most people seem to tune in to
a) watch the judges argue
b) watch people screw up
c) wallow in the utter despair of the loosers.
The winning seems a mere by product to me.
but I guess it's a step up from making naked people fight hungry lions or public executions (unless you live in Iraq).
and it's generally pleasant enough TV, which is all I ask.

I read that Paul might be trying to win some credits in his war with Heather. Appearing on the US tv as a guest jury is a part in that tactics.

^I suppose that could be it. The thing is, he hasn't really been in the news that much over here. He's been in it a lot more since this announcement though. I don't see how this would really help his image but I guess it can't really hurt. It's not like he's John or anything.

His image in North America is pretty intact I think. If he wants to drum up some support he should do this kind of thing in the UK.

Whatever his motivation is, I think it's misguided. I mean, it's almost as if he goes out of his way to come off as the cheesy opportunistic Beatle. He's pretty resiliant though. I mean, it's pretty hard to ruin your credibility when you're a Beatle and you've got all those great Lennon/McCartney compostitions to fall back on. He's been trying pretty hard though. I'd say it all started in the 80's with his fabulous duets. Could go as far back as Broadstreet even.

Paul, Paul, Paul.  The poor guy must be lost.  Or lost it.  I just hope there aren't a bunch of horrible Beatles covers with Paul saying stuff like, "me and John wrote that one afternoon in Weybridge."

Ringo, you could almost expect to do something like this.  It could help his visibility, sell what have been some pretty decent albums lately.  Boost some concerts.

But Paul--c'mon.

Of course, in a sick way the Ed Sullivan show was the American Idol of its day--only the fans screamed instead of voted.  The Beatles were on shows with rat-puppet Topo Gigio and "that wonderful Hollywood star Edie Gourmet."  Not to mention the general run of plate-spinners, dog-tricks, etc.

John would have been great on the show--I'm sure he could have ripped Simon Cowell a new one seven ways before he hit the ground!

I think we're experiencing a bit of a cultural divide here. I really don't think it would be that looked down upon if he did it here in the UK

My buddy Tommy Spurlock played the Grammys in the 1990s with Rodney Crowell.  Paul was sitting in the front row.  So was Miles Davis.  Tough crowd.

Less than twenty feet away.  Tommy said Paul seemed to be into it, but it wasn't quite Miles' thing.
