The monaural Sgt. Pepper's is quite different than the stereo version. The mono mixes are richer and even some "clues" were found in them, like Paul yelling about something at the end of the reprise*.
Well, fortunately I have "The Alternate Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" CD and so the mono mixes are restored to my collection.
Remastered albums would be nice, bit not absolutely essential. For me, anyway. Yes, the Love album sounds nice, but so do the other albums in their present state. And that's the way the Beatles heard them in the studio at the time. The Beatles collection can be digitally altered ad infinitum.
You're lucky that you have the vinyl. The cd's sounds mostly awful.
BTW, I wouldn't say that we'll ever hear it the way it was heard at the time in the studio.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
I like to think that George Martin played the final mix for the Beatles in the studio which is at least close to what we hear on CDs or vinyl today. The remastered Love album is definitely not what the Beatles heard then.
Beatles fans will probably have to wait until next year before they can buy the Fab Four's tunes from online retailers such as Apple's iTunes store, George Harrison's widow said on Friday.
A recent settlement to a lengthy trademark dispute between Apple and the Beatles' company, Apple Corps, has cleared the way for the band to distribute its catalogue in cyberspace.
But Olivia Harrison told Reuters, "We just have a few things to work out elsewhere."
Specifically, all the Beatles CDs have been remastered -- good news for fans who have long complained about the poor sound quality -- and the organization wants to get the artwork ready for the physical packages. Asked if the catalogue would be available online by the end of next year, she said, "Oh God, yeah. Hope so ... I don't know if it would be the end of this year, but it would be nice. Imminent, let's put it that way."
Paul McCartney, who has adopted an aggressive digital marketing strategy for the release next week of his solo album, "Memory Almost Full," told trade publication Billboard last month that an online deal for the Beatles catalogue was "virtually settled." But he, too, shied away from saying that anything would happen in the short term.
The Beatles are the highest-profile omission from digital retailers. While the dispute with Apple did not help, the band's organization has traditionally adopted a conservative approach to new technology, including CDs.
"I think we're a little bit behind," Harrison said, noting that it was "ridiculous" that properly remastered CDs of the band's catalogue were not yet available.
"We (the band's members and widows) all agree. It's been done. It's just trying to now get it out there."
She said that Neil Aspinall, the recently retired businessman who oversaw the group's complex business affairs, had been busy in recent years on the remastering project.
"That's a big job. That means you have to go back through all the archives and find great photographs and really give a nice package to the fans."
Aspinall retired in April and was replaced by Jeff Jones, an American music industry executive who specializes in deluxe reissues of classic albums. Harrison said Aspinall's departure was voluntary, dispelling fan speculation to the contrary.
But she said Jones would "pick up the pace" now that the most recent project, a Beatle-inspired Cirque du Soleil stage show in Las Vegas, was underway after years of preparation initiated by her husband before he died in 2001.
What does this mean? The records could be bought on real CDs as well? I continue being confused about all this... sorry for my insistent asking for information

It means that as usual, Apple are lagging behind. They're now putting back the date for re-issues (both on CD, and mp3) until the end of this year at the earliest. It had better be a damn good package!!

Re-releasing the Beatles albums as actual ALBUMS! But!! When you open up the beautiful duplication of, say "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," you have a regular sized CD inside!
As a kid in the 70's, the biggest thrill next to listening to the music was staring at the album cover, both front and back, and inside. That magic could return, and the Beatles could ONCE AGAIN start an original trend.
Yeah, the albums would be oversized, but let's face it: the Beatles really are in a class by themselves. They deserve their own space, away from the common CD cases.

That's a fantastic idea! I love it! I want my own huge Sgt. Pepper's! (I wanna see all those faces clearly!)
