I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

In That'll Be The Day, Billy Fury was the lead singer of a band called Stormy Tempest of which Keith Moon was the drummer. There was a running conflict between Fury's character and Moon's as Fury obviously wanted Moon out of the band and Moon was aware of this - the problem was Moon's character knew that he was too good to ever be chucked out of the band! Nice little sub plot!

There are a few tracks by "Stormy Tempest" on the soundtrack LP too (it hasn't ever been released on CD), one of which is "A Thousand Stars" - I can't recall the others off hand but I'll look it up tonight if anyone's interested.

This was a double album - the first three sides were made up of classic Fifties and early Sixties songs, however side 4 featured new tracks...

David Essex - Rock On
Billy Fury - A Thousand Stars, Long Live Rock, That's All Right Mama, Get Yourself Together, What'd I Say.
Viv Stanshall - Real Leather Jacket
Stormy Tempest  - What In The World (Shoop).
Eugene Wallace - Slow Down
Wishfull Thinking  - It'll Be Me

Here's an extract from an article from the New Musical Express (28 October 1972):

"The film features the music of the times (before the Beatles). The Everly Brothers are seen in the picture [they are not - AL], as are Viv Stanshall and Bill Fury who fronts a mythical band of the period. It is this band, known as Stormy Tempest and the Typhoons, that is creating particular interest because of its star-studded line-up. The personnel is of a flexible nature and Keith Moon, Pete Townshend, Ron Wood, Graham Bond and John Hawkins have already been featured in soundtrack recordings. The NME learns this week that Stevie Winwood and Jack Bruce have now joined this array of musical talents."

Hope this helps

AL

stardust is the sequel to that'll be the day....summary below...
Following on from the earlier film it is set in the mid 1960s and follows the career of aspiring rock star Jim Maclaine (David Essex). Maclaine has assembled a group of musicians and formed a band The Stray Cats, he seeks out his old friend Mike (Adam Faith) to become the band’s road manager. Mike quickly acquires a new van, accommodation and a recording session for the group. Maclaine soon becomes a massive star and is plunged into the centre of media attention. He indulges in casual sex and heavy drug use and the film documents the detrimental effects of this success on Maclaine and his relationship with his friends and colleagues. In particular, Maclaine’s long-standing friendship with manager Mike is now soured by money and success.

Ringo didn't want to detract from The Beatles's own legend so he declined to appear in Stardust, his part (as Mike) was instead played by Adam Faith.

So Mike turned from a Scouser to a Cockney!!!

In my opinion, the "live" band scenes are not very convincing in this movie - the "sixties" songs by The Stray Cats have a distinct Seventies feel to them which is not helped by the audience tieing scarves to their wrists ala The Bay City Rollers fans! Apart from that, I really enjoyed this movie  - almost as much as That'll Be The Day!

Stardust  also had a 2 LP accompanying soundtrack - this time made up of Sixties classics and originals by The Stray Cats and David "Jim Mclean" Essex.

Here's the 8-track version!

Tracklisting as follows:

Neil Sedaka-Happy Birthday Sweet 16
Maxine Brown-Oh No Not My Baby
Bobby Vee-Take Good Care Of My Baby
The Zombies-She's Not There
Bobby Darin-Dream Lover
Billy J.Kramer & The Dakotas
Dave Edmunds & The Electricians-Da Doo Ron Ron
The Beach Boys-I Get Around
The Drifters-Up On The Roof
The Chiffons-One Fine Day
Little Eva-Loco Motion
The Fortunes-You've Got The Trouble
Carole king-It Might As Well Rain Until Sept.
Gerry & The Pacemakers
Jan & Dean-Surf City
Cat Stevens-Matthew & Son
Barbara Lewis-Make Me Your Baby
Shirelles-Will You love Me Tomorrow
The Box Tops-The Letter
Tha Mama's & The Papa's-Monday, Monday
Lovin' Spoonful-Summer In The City
The Monkees-I'm A Believer
The Animals-The House Of The Rising Sun
The Hollies-Carrie Anne
The Bee Gees-I've Gotta Get A Message To You
The Righteous Bros.-You've Lost That lovin' Feelin'
Barry McGuire-Eve Of Destruction
Jefferson Airplane-White Rabbit
Aretha Franklin-Natural Woman

ORIGINAL MATERIAL
The Stray Cats-When Will I Be Loved
