Thanks for the link and the overview of the site, GA! I do appreciate it. I used to be a Neil Young fanatic, but lost touch with him over the years. I'll be very happy to get caught up with him again. Cheers!

Welcome. I knew there'd be one or two to check out links.
Great discussion! My c.d. buying runs usually tobands from the 60's -70's as most newer bands do one decent album and poof! , gone like the wind!
Seems that most artists over a number of years can't get past that succesful first album, to establish a career. Wasn't like that for the classic artists of the 60s/70s. One exception is Coldplay, who got a lot better still on their last album. Hope the next one is as good.
Glad you like this thread. I'm a big fan of 'Cisney' (as Kevin calls them). I hope to keep it going strong.
I just heard Neils "Live at Massey Hall" for the first time. He sounds in very good voice. I was very impressed. My girlfriend wants to know all about him now (she's a NY virgin). She don't know what she's in for. I forbade (as much as I can) to get Harvest and recommended either Everyone Knows.. or After The Goldrush.
What's wrong with Harvest? I like that just as much as After The Goldrush. I learned every NY song when I was a teen.

I own it too. Maybe its because I see it as a bit of a NY cliche. I just think the others are a bit more edgy. And I can't abide the orchestration. A Man..Maid ruins the mood of the album. The accoustric numbers are classics.
I still haven't got my hands of Live at massey hall yet...whats it like Kevin?? Like you, i'd recommend Everybody knows...it's amazing, in my opinion. Even though, i was a Neil fan before i heard that, i think it sets out his style and is better than Harvest, and is what truly got me into Neil Young.
I'll give you that with bells on. I always skip it, myself.
Okay, I'd better get Everybody Knows.

A revelation. All accoustic. A nice mix of Springfield and solo stuff. I was amazed at the strength of his voice. I expected him to sound a bit tinny. Strongly recommend it. It was due to be released between Goldrush and Harvest, but Neil blocked it. A shame.
