This from "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions":
"Tuesday 2 June 1964 Studio Two: 2:30-5:53pm. Recording: 'Any Time At All' (takes 1-7) 'Things We Said Today' (takes 1-3). ...The next number, 'Things We Said Today', was recorded in three takes. The first was a false start, the second was complete, vocals and rhythm, and the third saw Paul double track his vocal, Ringo add tambourine and John add piano. The recording sheets indicate that the piano was to be omitted from the remix, a decision illustrating the luxury of multi-track recording over basic two-track, but because the piano had not been fully seperated from the other instruments a little of its sound leaked across into the other microphones, so it can be heard on the finished song afterall."
I'm always impressed with how comfortable Mccartney leads back into mentioning the title of the song I always pair this and She's A Woman together - just great Mccartney tunes. I havn't heard it in awhile - think I'll indulge soon
On another note - I heard I'll Get You the other day ... I always forget about it - and it's superb!
They did a lot of double-tracking during this time so it could gave all been paul. Paul was always singing high harmonys, even on George's songs. Lennon wasn't great on high harmony's as "I'll Be Back demonstrated on Anthology 1 (is's too hard to sing!)
It's been a Hard Days Night & i've been working like a dog!

Sorry, but to me, this quote alone doesn't resolve the issue if it was only Paul. From the above, John (or anyone else) might have been singing "vocals" with Paul on the second take. Unless this book always says "vocals" (plural) even when only one person sang.
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison

Well, knowing who wrote that book and how much people believe in him, -mainly because he read some papers and listened to some tapes (tho he was not the only one, we should remember) and nothing else-, each word is important because it's the Bible, you know!
Sorry, I can't help it. I'm an English major! And this question did honestly arise in my mind when I read the quote. Cheers, all.

Vocals = Paul on track 3 then Paul on track 4 - voila, it's plural!
Anyway, you can hear it's just Paul (or I can, anyway!) double tracked. There are lots of early tracks where John and Paul sing simultaneously and it doesn't sound like this. There is a very good example on the Help! album too - listen to Tell Me What You See and in particular the "look into these eyes now..." part - it's Paul AND John.
