Has an iTunes deal ever been officially confrimed? I can only find stories of 'possible' and 'likely' deal with iTunes.

If so won't that mean its restricted to ipods too?

I found it. It is Wippit. They've posted the press release on their site but its dated for next wednesday.

Wippit sells mostly mp3s so hopefully this will mean we'll get Beatles on mp3 too. I read EMI are going to be the first big record co. to do it. Perhaps this is what they were waiting on?

It seems that The Beatles don't want to sell just on iTunes.

I saw this on Record Of The Day. There won't be any Beatles MP3s on Wippit - the press release might be referring to the 'Classic Beatles' album by Robin Hill and Peter Wiltschinsky.

Anthology was almost a no way project.

If the legal ever gets settled--maybe it will hit Mp3 & I tunes.

But why would they concernt of some buisness making money from their songs!
This is like a video store--They buy the miove & rent it out 150 time.Then sell it & buy a newer for the store.
At 80 pents a down laod.
1000 down loads is now into pounds,

Now if these get 100,000,000 downloaders--they get all this money & the Beatles would get only the 1 time buy.
I realy don't suport down loads for that.

The bright side of it--if the Beatles actualy put songs on i tunes & mp3,this may open up for ring tones on cells.
Right now its just cheep notes some one did with an organ or piano.
Not my idea of Beatles when others play the real artist.

Legal service don't just pay once like a video store! Thay have to pay for each download sold. About 70% of each sale goes back to the record companies.

Unless of course you're refering to the Russian services who are neither legal and don't pay a cent.

Also, you said the Wippit press release was 'very misleading'. You must have been extremely misled by the story, because there was no press release. Just a title on their page. That's what sparked the story and the speculation.

THE BEATLES' record label EMI has denied reports the iconic British group's back catalogue is to become available online, after an internet download site hinted at the songs' impending sale last Friday (09MAR07). Apple Inc was expected to get permission to sell The Beatles' classics on its iTunes download store after reaching an agreement with the surviving members of the Fab Four - SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY and RINGO STARR - over the use of the Apple name last month (FEB07). But EMI insists a deal has yet to be finalised, despite UK download site Wippit reporting on Friday, "The Beatles available for download." The HEY JUDE hitmakers are the last major pop act to withhold their catalogue of songs from digital stores like iTunes and Napster.

On the BBC it says; "Rare news footage and interviews with The Beatles have been made available to buy from download service Wippit."
