My friend managed to get me and him tickets for the Decemberist concert last night. we almost didnt get to go about 4 times.
first, he didnt get the tickets until about 5 o'clock yesterday evening, which was two hours before the concert started. then we got to the train station, thought that the train that was there was going to go to the station further down in town and then make its way back before going into Boston. well the train started heading towards Boston instead and we thought that it was the last train before 720 so we got in his car, drove to the station the next town over and got on the train there. in reality, a second train came after we left the station, which we ended up getting on in the next town, so we really didnt out run a train.
then when we got there, we had to go on two other rail lines before we got to Fenway Park where the club was. we basically fought with the stupid ticket thing for the subway that they recently put in instead of keeping the tokens. we went out the wrong exit of the last subway station, so we went back in and out the other exit. we got to the concert at 730, the Decemberists didnt come on till 815 though so we had to listen to half an hour of the opening act, which was...shall we say, a tad bit irritating until the last 4 songs.
the concert itself was amazing. the songs were really good, even for me who hasn't really listened to them. the talking between the drummer and lead singer were absolutely hilarious, at one point the drummer was making Poltergeist references. during the encore, they played a song about two sailors that got swallowed by a whale. At the beginning, the lead singer told us that when the guitarist gives the signal, we were to scream like we're being swallowed by a whale. "I realize that there are some of you who have never experienced being swallowed by a whale, or acted like you were screaming while being swallowed by a whale. so try and join in with the rest of us who have," at the end of the song, they had one of the crewmen come out in a whale costume and "swallow" the band. fun times and screaming, had by all.
during the beginning, some guy kept yelling out "play freebird" so the lead singer looked over at him and said, "You know about the group i created, MACOF? its Musicians Against Calling Out of Freebird. *crowd laughs* Lets try and make this place a little bit safer,"
good concert.
so afterward, we got on the subway, and waited for like 10 minutes before the thing started going. then we got to the other subway line and waited around for 15 minutes for the stupid train to show up. we finally got to the station that we take the commuter line home, we had missed the train back home and had to wait an hour and a half before the last one out of the station was leaving. so we finally made it home at 1 oclock this morning, and it took me 20 minutes to try and stand up this morning.
great concert though, and i missed school and the senior banquet yesterday. so all in all, that was a great day

Heard their album today (twice)! Very impressed, I have to say. Can't wait to see them live. I love the ELP - Jethro Tull thing in the 4 part song!!! F***ing brilliant!!
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
funny thing about that, appearently the club next door was like blasting their disco music or something and you could hear it during the concert. hence the "hang the DJ" chanting
