Only George would have the bravery to be the best man at the marriage of his best friend and ex-wife.

Only John Lennon could have been a violent, acidic drunk, a delinquent father and husband, an arrogant junkie....

and yet still, a world wide symbol of peace and love.

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

Only The Rutles (or Eric Idle and Neil Innes, anyway) could have written a half dcent knock off of The Beatles (go away, Klaatu).

Didn't John Lennon once ask Neil Innes how he wrote his songs?

I haven't heard that, but I do recall reading somewhere that John liked All You Need Is Cash so much that he wouldn't send back the videotape copy that was given to him for his approval.

According to Pattie's autobiography, George wasn't the best man.  In fact, he didn't even attend (the ceremony was in Tucson, Arizona and took place right before Clapton was starting a U.S. tour).  George did attend their wedding party, along with Paul, Ringo and many other big music names at Eric and Pattie's home a couple of months later.
