It confusses me why Pepper is called a Psychedelic album, its a very english album to me. the themes are so english like Lovely Rita, Getting Better, When i'm 64 or Good Morning, Good Morning. They are hardly songs about taking dope or magic mushrooms! It kind of runs parellel to the Kinks Village Green Presevation Society album which has this english feel.
HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO THE WHITE ALBUM! you say its your birthday!

I don't think to be termed pyschedlic a song needs to be about drugs. It's more of a description of the feel and production, which most people assume to be drug inspired. You could perform a psychedlic song about doing the dishes. English pyschedlia has always been different from the american variety - it is as you say generally whimisical looks at people and places.
Thanks for the English clarification of pyschedelia, Kevin! I think in the US it means "something that can best be appreciated under the influence of drugs".
George H called Rubber Soul their pot album, and Revolver their acid album. I'm not sure what Paul thought Pepper was, or if it was particularly drug-influenced. Paul was the key facilitator of Pepper, and he was always the most abstemious of the four. He likely didn't think of it as a drug album at all!
