Does anyone have some favourite lines/quotes from Beatles songs? It can be something "philosophical", or something funny, or something beautiful, or a clever word-play, or just something that you really like, or even something that you use sometimes.

For me... the ones I can think of right now are:

"and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" (makes me think)
"limitless undying love that shines around me like a million suns" (I find it quite beautiful)

and then the one that I actually use when people complain about the weather
"when it rains and shines, it's just a state of mind"

There are more that I like, but these are the ones off the top of my head.

What about you guys?

(wow... I made a thread...  )

I'd ask my friends to come and see... an Octopus's Garden with me ^___^

Great thread topic, Octie!

I've always enjoyed Paul's clever word play, for example:

And it really doesn't matter if
I'm wrong I'm right
Where I belong I'm right
Where I belong.

Welcome JMHS (what an original name! I like it). Hope you'll enjoy the forums.

Every song has at least 6 lines- but do you like ALL the lines (or all 6?) Thats the question. Now for me, the lines that "speak to me" or "do it for me" are:

"Got to be good looking coz he's so hard to see"

"Sitting on the sofa with a sister or two... ohhhh"

These two were not for the content but more for the way they are sung. These are content songie lines:

"What ever happened to the life that we once knew?" (so real and honest from John)
"Don't leave me standing here" (strong line for me)
"turn off your mind and float downstream..." (the whole of TNK really)

I'll think of some more.

Congries Octie on making a thread!

And so it's true, pride comes before a fall
I'm telling you so that you won't lose all

Good line but especially in performance videos.  John always makes a funny face singing "before a fall."  It was awkward maintaining the meter of the lyric.

^ Have you ever thought that Paul had "his pride"? There was a fanfic about the Beatles and Paul there always talked about his pride. So i like singing "And so its true prude comes before a fall. I'm telling you so that you wont lose, Paul"

Another one:

Someday when we're dreaming
Deep in love not a lot to say

I like the "not a lot to say" part.

Welcome, JohnMccartneyHarrisonStarr! You have a very balanced name.

Hello Goodbye, thank you for explaining John's face when he sings "before a fall." I always thought he was just cutting up!

You're right, Kaleidoscope_Eyes and JMHS, many songs are just filled with great lines. "Across The Universe" has always captured me with its poetic beauty, but this bit is my favorite:

Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box

Such a perfect description of that feeling, so eloquently stated!

All you've got to do is choose love.  That's how I live it now.  I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden.  I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007

For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison

How could i ever have lost you.

But when you want money for people with minds that hate

You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer

Take these sunken eyes and learn to see

What they need is a dam good whacking

She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet glove

One sunny day the world was waiting for a lover

Where would i be without the White Album

Me too!   Such beautiful imagery...

Another line I like is
Life is very short and there's not time
For fussing and fighting my friend

Good thing to remember, I think...

Great thread Octie!
Well right now, these are my favorite lines:

Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all they really were doing
Was waiting for love

- Makes me think

Although your mind's opaque, try thinking more if just for your own sake
- George's sense of humor twisted into a song

Here are mine:

"and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" - The End

"Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to strawberry fields, nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about"- Strawberry fields forever  (that line makes me happy, like going to a magic place to forget about problems")

"Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye." - I am the warlus

"The sun is up, the sky is blue: it's beautiful and so are you" - Dear Prudence

The warlus was Paul...

Some more:

For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool

You say you'll change the constitution, well you know, we'd all love to change your head

I say yes, but I may mean no

I could go on and on....
