One recurring theme's in Paul's songwriting is his use of  " Whimsy " , it's one of the things i love about his work
What are your favourite whimsical songs and Why ? also why do you think he as written this way for so long ?
My favourite's are Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey ,Ballroom Dancing , English Tea , Mr Bellamy.
I know this style of writing  used to drive John mad , these little storey songs , but he's always struck me as been quite good at them , and i would imagine their more difficulte to write than you think ?
Whats your veiw of whimsical Paul  ?

Whimsical Paul-songs... from the ones you've mentioned, I really like Mr Bellamy. I can really imagine it as part of a story, as you said (in fact I wrote a little story the other day, based on the song and all...  ). And English Tea is great too - quite funny... "peradventure we might play"  .

And what you said about John, yeah, I also remember reading something along the lines that John preferred to write more about his own experiences ("I write about myself because I know myself" - something like that), rather than writing "story-songs" about someone else, like Paul.

Are they more difficult to write... I dunno, but I'd say you need quite a good imagination. And maybe the fact that you're not writing directly about yourself can make it easier, because sometimes it can be difficult sharing your personal feelings/experiences...

But I agree that Paul does these whimsical story-songs well... and I enjoy them!

I'd ask my friends to come and see... an Octopus's Garden with me ^___^

Other songs that are quite Whimsical i recall are 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer',
Rocky Raccoon, Honey Pie in the Beatles. it was genrally in the Beatles later years
that he started to do this kind of writing i reckon. He did a lot in Wings as well, like
Magneto & Titanium Man, You Gave Me Th Answer, Famous Groupies, Mrs Vanderbilt,
and of course in recent times, English Tea, & Mr Bellamy.

Can't forget Eleanor Rigby! That was a fantastic song, which was about someone else. His voice on it is so perfect, almost haunting. I love it.

Hehe, what do I think... I think there are quite a lot of Paul-songs that I haven't heard yet!
But to be honest, DaveRam, all the songs on your list that I have heard, I actually like
And I like the album's name too

I was'nt sure about Jenny Wren either Andy ,but on listening to it ,it's a story song and like Mr Bellamy it's subject matter is dark , but both feel whimsical to me , the music more so than the lyric's.
I also was'nt sure about Golden Earth Girl and Wunderlust ?
