THE BEATLES in there short career just got better and better , and never got the chance to release a bad album , in my opinion .
Is there any bands that have had just as a good career, where they hav`nt had a crap album ?

I agree Mr Kite not many bands can say they did'nt release a crap album in their career's like The Beatles  , but as most bands tend to go on past there sell by date a few crap ones can creep into the best of bands.
I can think of only two bands that im familiar with that put a string of sold albums together in there career  " Dire Strates And The Smiths " .
Ive been listening to Brother's In Arms recently and it's a great album in my opinion

When I try to think about a bad album done by The Beatles, I can't think of a single one.  Even those not so good songs could be heard at times.   Although I know some people who think the White Album is disorganized but that can't be consider a bad album because it contain great songs such as Yer Blues & Dear Prudence (my favorite of the whole album).

For me, The Beatles were evolving with each album they made but there are albums that were definitive in that evolution....
Revolver & Rubber soul- When it was evident that the music was evolving, more instrospective songs, using of exotic instruments like the sitar (George) and Paul beginning to experiment with different sounds, although hints of those changes were seen in earlier albums such as Help! and Beatles for sale.

Sgt. Pepper's- this album defined what a concept album should be, although the songs could be included in any album but somehow they blended so well...

White Album- their individual styles were developing.

I wonder how many younger bands can say they have more than one great album....

So I think there's no bad Beatles'album... well who knows if they could have carried on after Abbey Road....

I hope the Stones never quit. They had some good stuff on their last album, but of course no one heard it because it got no radio play. I think it's awesome that they're still playing. They've got the catologue to back them up so I'm glad they don't give a bleep!!

Back to the original question. What about the Clash? Or Queen? Maybe Jimi Hendrix? The Doors were pretty consistent too, You have to look at the short lived bands who didn't get much of a chance to f up.

I love the stones , but i think they have been a brand name more than a band thats moved on , say like U2 , as for HENDRIX i think his career was going down after the experience.
I have the same problem with DYLAN after BLONDE ON BLONDE  i dont like any of his albums , and lord i`ve tried
Loved the bootleg series though they were brilliant

A good point DARK PHOENYX

The Beach Boys maybe, even their not-so-good one's they released in the late
70's are worth investigating!
Cocteau Twins seemed to release great album after great album in my opinion!
David Bowie did to me up until late 70's then i lose interest, Elliott Smith, Bob Marley,
The Smiths (of course! DaveRam , beatles of the 80's for me!)
XTC are another group who've managed to release so many fantastic
albums in my opinion.
Can't think of any new-ish groups who've released great album after great album.
i like debut albums by Doves, Goldfrapp, Kaiser Cheifs & Ordinary Boys for exmple but
i don't think anything they've done since is that outstanding.

Most recent bands do a great album and then they can't repeat that quality....

For example, Guns n' Roses rocked with Appetite for destruction, they had a quality other bands of the era didn't have (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc.).  Then after a lot of turmoil they released the Use your illusion albums but they couldn't repeat what they did in Appetitite for Destruction.  That doesn't mean the albums are bad but they can't be compare with Appetite.

Even worst other bands only have a couple of nice songs in an album and the rest is crap.  At least with The Beatles I can play the whole CD...

I think The Beatles were smart enough to quit before they lose their essence... and that's what make them so special among the rest of the bands.  They were able to make better things album after album.  The proof is that some of their best songs came out after Sgt. Pepper's.

I think The Stones were finished after Black and Blue, and are a sad caricature of themselves. Some people really don't know when to quit. Queen I can't agree with either - Hot Space anyone!!? And every Smiths record sounds the same to me, so they can't really go wrong, can they.

Two artists for me that have made consistently good music over a very long time are: Richard Thompson and Tom Waits.

All the albums they made after 1975 (and that's 9 albums), except for 1977's "Love You", were between mediocre and really bad.

It says "The Beatles" on the cover and it's an official, authorized album, so it's a 'real' Beatles album.

It has just 4 new tracks and they're all weak for Beatles standards, so it's not a good album.

So therefor, it's a not-so-good Beatles album.

ABBA were great singles wise and their albums were always solid and they did'nt outstay their welcome , but as they did'nt sell so well in America , there not considerd a great group by some ,But i like them and there last album The Visitors is a favourite of mine .
Kratwerk's albums were very influencial .
But i still think The Beatles top the pile with their brilliant work

The Beatles finshed on top, they did of course struggle in the Get Back sessions but
they realised they all had to make one more fantastic album which was the classic Abbey Road!
But phil spector put out Let It Be after which is quite a weak album in places but has brilliant
songs on it. Yellow Submarine is the one Beatles album i never listen to much, as it never
does much for me (Hey Bulldog is my fav track on the album).

Yellow Submarine Songtrack is better, that's what it should have sounded like!
It would have sounded great if it was mixed like the Love soundtrack with the
songs flowing in & out, along with George Martin's orchestral compositiosns!

Tyrannosaurus Rex's 4 albums got better and better and when Bolan morphed the group into T.rex the first 3 T.rex albums were brilliant to, from folk to glam in 5 years .
Not forgetting none album singles like Ride A white Swan , Hot Love , Children Of The Revolution and the brilliant 20th Century Boy .
Then sadly it all went wrong drink drugs and a Mini and a tree , but those first 7 albums showed a real talent and development of sound .
Tyrannosaurus Rex's Unicorn and T.rex's Electric Warrior are great albums  by this underrated group Electric Warrior spent 8 weeks at # 1 in 71/72 , tracks like Cosmic Dancer ,Jeepster , Get It On , Life's A Gas still sound fantastic.
Ringo saw this talent and filmed Bolan and T.rex at the top of there game in the film Born To  Boogie

What about the Doors? I mean, even their worst was still pretty damn good. And I'd say the Band was pretty consistent throughout even though most people aren't familiar with their music. Some others I'm not sure about because I don't know all their stuff: Cream, Kinks? Someone will know better.
