Me Too!! i can't wait any longer!!
HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO THE WHITE ALBUM! you say its your birthday!
I did. I received it Saturday. It looks pretty good and there's a nice book coming with it, plus some more extra's. Would you believe that it was the first time I got the chance to watch the film with Dutch subtitles! I got to admit that it has some very funny moments, but the film itself is not too good imho. It's a terrible plot.
My girlfriend watched it for the first time last week and thought it was awful. I pointed out it was made for a younger audience, The Beatles weren't actors blah blah but have to agree it is very lacking (but then again I don't regard sixties cinema - especially anything that veers near the whimsical - in particularly high regard.) And lets face it, most movies with rock stars in contrived situations are a blueprint for disaster. Hats off though to Mr Lester for the music clips though. Some of the effects are superb and as I understand it was quite a breakthrough for the time. (in the accompanying documentary he said MTV sent him a certificate calling him the father of modern music video. (he demanded a blood test)

It's not a very good movie at all. In fact I don't think the gap between quality of movie, and quality of soundtrack has ever been wider, before or since.
I've ordered it for historical value. And just because it's The Beatles. Not the deluxe version though.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
(although...there are exceptions to that rule : The Monkees "Head" from '68 has now become a cult classic, and Lulu was in "To Sir With Love", which no one can deny is a 60's classic--although she was more "pop" as opposed to rock)
So, who's shelling out for the Deluxe version? And why!!!??
no way in hell am I putting out THAT much $ for the delux. If this was Let It Be, that would be another story. Dont get me wrong, I've always loved Help! (in a whimsical sort of way--and have wonderful memories of it's original theatrical release--mind you, I was only 12 at the time lol)), but, let's face it, it certainly isnt in the top echelon of our boy's cinematic accomplishments. The "Standard" 2-disc set will do me fine--no frills.
