I've got a feeling it's legit.  AHDN and Help are obviously the most accessible of the films.  It's all the other stuff that there's a hang about.

Thank you for the news, Al!

I'm worried, though. I didn't buy the AHDN DVD on Amazon, because according to the reviews, they had botched the production with a crappy visual cut of the movie (cutting down the picture way too much for the format) and the sound was inferior. Um, I would buy this DVD because of the picture and the sound. So I passed on that. I wonder if anyone here thought the AHDN DVD was okay (the packaging; we know the movie is tremendous!).

I hope the Help DVD comes out in a better package. *worries*

The good thing with the AHDN DVD was that it was transferred from the original restored 35mm negative so it has never looked so good - the result being that you can actually read what John writes on that pad!

Yes, it's true - the film was slightly cropped, and for those who know about such things, the 2002 DVD version is 1.66:1 widescreen and the original was filmed in Academy 1.37:1 - I have no idea what that means but I certainly wouldn't say the DVD of AHDN was a crappy visual cut - not by any stretch of the imagination! The soundtrack was also cleaned up and is presented in mono Dolby surround sound - no idea how that works in mono though!

I think what you have to realise with the AHDN DVD is that this is the best quality release we are likely to see for a VERY long time - yeah, it may have a few short-comings, but the quality of the picture far outweighs any of these in my opinion.

So basically I would recommend that you buy it "and be done with it!"

I just got Help! for my birthday about a month ago. It's the original movie and everything, but the weird thing about it is that the cover is in Korean out of all things, and they have mustaches on the front like they did during Sgt.Pepper. Can't figure that one out, but it is the real movie. Figures, as soon as I get it, a new one comes out that's better! I have the worst luck sometimes...but I'll still get the one coming out in October! I want the movie poster and stuff, I love finding goodies in with movies! I'm excited, I love this movie!

I've got AHDN and it's true that the sound of the music is a  bit weird, kind of echoey. But the image quality is fine.
Any ideas of what could be on the second disc?

Those Beatles really know how to stay in the news. Release everything at about 10 year intervals and then tease people in the mean time with great promises of riches beyond our wildest imaginations. I'll buy it though. Deluxe or not.

Apple Corps Ltd have announced the eagerly anticipated DVD release of The Beatles' second feature film 'Help!'

on October 30th (October 29th ROW) which will be marketed and distributed by EMI Music.

Directed by Richard Lester, who also directed the band's debut feature film 'A Hard Days Night', 'Help!' made its theatrical debut in 1965. The story follows The Beatles as they become passive recipients of an outside plot that revolves around Ringo's possession of a sacrificial ring, which he cannot remove from his finger. As a result, he and his bandmates John, Paul and George are chased from London to the Austrian Alps and the Bahamas by religious cult members, a mad scientist and the London police.

In addition to starring the Beatles, 'Help!' has a witty script, a great cast of British character actors and features 7 classic Beatles tracks, including:

    -- 'Help!'

-- 'You're Going To Lose That Girl'

-- 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away'

    -- 'Ticket To Ride'

    -- 'I Need You'

    -- 'The Night Before'

    -- 'Another Girl'

The DVD will be a 2-disc set. Disc 1 will feature the original film digitally restored with a newly created 5.1 soundtrack, while Disc 2 contains an hour of extra features, including:

-- The Beatles in Help! -- 30 minute documentary about the making of the film with Richard Lester, the cast and crew. Includes exclusive behind the        scenes footage of The Beatles on set.

-- A Missing Scene -- Featuring Wendy Richard

-- The Restoration of Help! -- An in depth look at the restoration process.

-- Memories of Help! -- The cast and crew reminisce

-- Theatrical Trailers -- 2 US trailers and 1 Spanish trailer.

-- 1965 US Radio Spots -- Hidden in disc menus.

There will be 2 editions of the DVD -- a standard digipack and a deluxe boxed set that will contain a reproduction of Richard Lester's original annotated script, 8 lobby cards and a poster, plus a 60-page book with rarely seen photographs and production notes from the movie. Both the deluxe book and the standard booklet feature an introduction by Richard Lester and an appreciation by Martin Scorsese.

Well, I've checked T.E. and Wendy Richards should be in the same scene as Frankie Howerd!
They go to an acting school run by Sam Ahab (Frankie). Some of the script is in Lewisohn's Chronicles.
For example :

Sam : First I want you to limber ...then I would like you to lope - are you able to lope?
John : Which do you want first - the limber?

Wendy Richards is a pupil playing Lady Macbeth!

GREAT NEWS about Help!  I got by for years w/ my VHS copy, always knowing I would replace it w/ the DVD--and NOW the wait is FINALLY over!!
brought  the HDN DVD from Amazon cpl of years ago--was totally satisfied w/ it--dont know what the fuss was all about--the quality was FINE--have my VHS copy still as well)
only have ONE copy of MMT (on vhs) --I'm still waiting for a decent DVD version of that.
Have my Yellow Sub for a cpl years too (and the old vhs version) the DVD is excellent.

BUT ALAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I GUESS its STILL TOO MUCH TO ASK WHEN WILL WE GET OUR LET IT BE DVD to FINISH OUR COLLECTION (I mean, let's face it--most of us have ALL the cds and solo stuff cds(I do) --but I feel INCOMPLETE without ALL the films!!)It's like missing one of your CHILDREN to a Beatle fanatic...

Nice one - thanks for researching that

There were a few other scenes that were cut too, one of them is a scene of George (I think!) in a racing car and another has one of the Beatles sitting in a tree (can't remember which!) during "The Plan" segment. Doesn't sound like these have been included in the set though - although brief snippets of these scenes can be scene in some trailers for the film.
