I'm trying to compile a disc of their hardest, rockin'-est material.  This is what I got so far...any opinions welcomed.

01: Helter Skelter (the #1 hardest song - by them, or by anybody IMO)
02: Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and my Monkey
03: Good Morning Good Morning
04: Back in the USSR
05: Birthday
06: A Hard Day's Night
07: Help!
08: She Said She Said
09: I'm Happy Just to Dance With You
10: Any Time At All
11: Run For Your Life
12: I Saw Her Standing There
13: Come Together
14: Day Tripper
15: Get Back
16: Twist and Shout
17: Doctor Robert
18: Revolution
19: Can't Buy Me Love
20: Taxman
21: Oh! Darling
22: Roll Over Beethoven

Any others?

I'd only include these, from your list:

Helter Skelter
Birthday
Come Together
Revolution

I wouldn't disagree. I was trying not to be too 'hard' on Buttmunker!

Very true. Really, only Helter Skelter can be called 'hard'. And that is really stretching it I think. It may, or may not have influenced heavy metal, but 'hard' is Tool, and Helmet, as far as I'm concerned.

Let me rephrase, then.  How about "heavy," as in a heavy feeling, or vibe?  That's more along the lines of what I meant.

At one point, Macca was going to have compilations released - as themes.  One would be 'heavy' (I think that was his word), and the other would be the ballads.

Lucille
Long Tall Sally
Oh My Soul
Kansas City
Clarabella

All sung by Paul, #s 1, 3, and 5 on "Beatles at the BBC". All Little Richard, except I think Clarabella maybe.
Completely awesome!!

I love John,
I love Paul,
And George and Ringo,
I love them all!

In any case - all are completely awesome!!

tend to disagree about "Happy Just To Dance w/ You" although it's a nice HDN era tune (in the vein of "Do You Wanna Know A Secret?") it just doesnt belong on a Beatle "hardest" list IMHO, but then, it's all relative)

i'd add : "And Your Bird Can Sing" & "I Dig A Pony"

What's hard about Hey Bulldog? Really, we can just take The Beatles catalogue, throw out all the ballads and list the rest!

What definition of hard? hard to play? hard sounding?

It would be easier to list whats NOT hard to play I reckon...When you really tear up and dissect the nuances of every instrument & vocal & sometimes both at the same time, you could say that it is always hard to play someone elses feel...in that case they are ALL hard to play.

It's a bit of a vagueness.

Already mentioned, but Revolution the single is hard! I especially like how on The Love disc the guitars are seperated and you can really hear them better.

I agree with you Blue Meanie. Beatles were not actually too hard. They were good boys.

Because the title of the thread had HARDEST in capitols I thought it was meant to mean hard as in sound. So what did you mean?

Its explained what I meant in earlier posts.  "Hardest" as in "heavy-sounding," either in tone or in mood, or, of course, crunching guitars.
