It seems to me the only artist over the last 37 years to give Paul a run for his money is Elton John in terms of the number of good quality albums and singles they have both released ?
So who do you think comes out  " Tops " between these two ?
Im more of a McCartney fan , but i do like some of Elton's stuff especially  " Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy "

The case is if you count or not count Paul's work with the Beatles. Let's face it. Paul's best work was with the Beatles, so if you're counting just Paul's work with Wings and as a solo artist, well of course I would said Elton John. He released a collection of amazing and commercially successful albums between 1972-1976, and sold over 100 million records. He also has the best-selling single of all time (30 million copies) and achieve over 25 Top 10 albums.
In the other hand Paul composed lyrics and music, and Elton is a fantastic music composer but terrible lyricist. Paul plays every instrument known in this world ( ) and Elton is just a piano player (but freakingly amazing piano player!).
So, who's better?

I would say Paul. But I love both artists. If Paul's my favourite musician, and Stevie Wonder's my second, I would put Elton in the third place.

In the 70's Paul and Elton were neck and neck both had 6 # Albums and 6 # Singles on Billboard.
And although Elton was the best selling artist of the 70's , Paul was a very close second to Elton on Billboard .

They are two brilliant artist in their own right, but i don't think Elton
writes that much great songs anymore. I'm more of a fan of his 70's
work & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a fantastic album. He was & still
is an excellant pianist & showman!

Well, if you look a little closer, Elton John made a late-career renaissance with 'Songs From The West Coast' in 2001. That's a fantastic album, full of great songs and a good reminder of John's 70's work. It's kind of what Macca did with 'Flaming Pie'. A cohesive and clean record inspired by his early years, and doing what he really do well: compose great songs.
Did anybody listen to that record? To me is a great album.

Solo Paul vs Solo Elton John? Who knows. I'd say Elton. I listen to WAY more Elton than solo Paul, but what's that say. BTW, in the last 37 years, I think there are a few more artists that can be included. Also, I think Elton pretty much fizzled out in the 80's much like Paul so what's the difference.

You're right. It's incredible how they were so lost during in the 80's and recovered amazingly during the 90's, and how they are still rocking...

I enjoy both Macca & Elton, so for me is impossible to choose.... They're both great performers and singers.

I like both, but wow! Like someone already mentioned, if you counted Paul's output with the Beatles it is breathtaking. But as for the 70s it was pretty close between Elton and Paul.
