Tony Hancock, for me, is the funniest man that ever walked the planet. I tend to love all those 50's and 60's forgotten comedians, such as: Harry Worth, Bernard Bresslaw, and Charlie Drake. And I was brought up on a diet of Radio comedy like 'Round The Horn'. I love Monty Python of course, but never got The Goodies. Of todays lot, I think Bill Bailey is extremely funny, as is Catherine Tate.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
I love comedians who sing. So Monty Python is high on my list, and Tom Lehrer, and let's throw in Steve Martin because his happy banjo tune of "Oh death, and grief, and sorrow, and murder..." deserves to be remembered forever.
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison
The Goons were my first comedy love. True pioneers. But I used to dread the harmonica spot in the interlude. Forty-odd years on and I can still do the voices. ("Wake up Min, there's someone at the door..")
i like cheech and chong,richard pryor,peter sellers,dennis wolfberg,chris rock,charlie sheen,monty pythons,saturday night live(great casting for many years),second city television,are you being served was great back in the day,george carlin,chris tucker.....the list is endless...they provide a service equal to music,laughter....

good shout on goodnight sweetheart, very underrated and nick lyndhurst is hillarious and a really good actor shame he never done more work and movies, instead of the odd sitcom every few years
Richard Pryor because he's so real. He's the greatest stand up ever. Anyone who hasn't seen his Sunset Strip performance needs to rent it immediately! Talking about being set on fire from smoking crack: I wish I could find the clip! It's hysterical. "When that fire hit your a**, it will sober your a** up *quick*! I saw something, I went, "Well, that's a pretty blue. You know what? That looks like *fire*!" Fire is inspirational. They should use it in the Olympics, because I ran the 100 in 4.3."
Bill Hicks. Very original. A genius. On the legalization of pot, music and the PMRC. If you've never seen the egg/brain on drugs commercial, you might not get the first part. Beatles references in this one. *We all live in a Yellow Tambourine" Heh:
Eddie Murphy was also AMAZING in his prime. Funniest man alive in the eighties. Period.
Yes, very funny man. I've always been very British in my tastes for comedy, but I was introduced (not literally) to Bill Hicks last year by a Canadian friend of mine, and was blown away.
Agreed, Eddie Murphy's early stand up was brilliant.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

Was it in 'Concert for George' that one of the troupe (Palin?) commented that George felt there was a special comedic spirit in the Beatles that got transferred to the Pythons after the group's breakup? What a fine thought.

I've always loved Peter Sellers. What a talent, but more than a little crazy. Here's a trivia question for Seller fans. Whose voice is he mimicking in Lolita? And he's brilliant because he actually sounds just like the guy.
Norman Granz founded Verve Records and one article claims that Sellers copies his voice (which was on some Verve albums). But Clare Quilty has a bunch of voices/disguises in the movies (one like the Nazi-ish Dr. Strangelove). So I give up. Any hints?
I meant just Quilty's main speaking voice. Sellers is imitating someone whose voice most of us probably have never heard even though he's incredibly famous.
There's a certain thread in the Current Affairs secton that keeps making me want to post "I panicked!" But I haven't cuz that would be in poor taste as the topic is a serious one. But I did have to get that out of my system. Here's the clip if anyone's wondering why:
BTW, Peter Sellers was imitating Stanley Kubrick in Lolita if anyone was wondering. Which it appears not, but there you go anyway. And he sounds just like him. Brilliant.
