I picked Joe English. I think he had such a great drumming style and he took Jet and made it something totally different then the way the single version(Paul played drums on the single) was.

All great drummers in their own way, hard choosing one! Joe English was a fantastic & interesting player & i think was totally undereted as a player. But i go for Abe as he is just so AMAZING!! Being a drummer myself, i've come to really appreciate his style & i suppose have been influenced by him the way i play at the moment! So yeah, as Nedison said, Abe all the way!!

Also a drummer and I also agree that Abe is the better drummer but theres not much in it. Abe is far more understated in his playing (very much like ringo) but is a solid as a rock. Drumming is not about endless fills, its about keeping the beat and emphasising certain parts of the music. joe English was a great drummer too but i think for me, Abe just shades it.
oh and for the record, paul is a terrible drummer but probably a better drummer than abe is a bass player
And as a little aside, i have oneof steve hollys drumsticks that he through into the audience a wembely on the back to the egg tour in 1979. justthought id mention it

I don't know about that, If you compare both of them playing on Jet, Joe has a much more catchier drumming style. To me it sounds like Abe tried to imitate the single off of Band on The Run. Joe went ahead and made the drumming his own. I really think that Abe just has a big personality and a great stage presence that makes people believe he is a superb drummer. Don't get me wrong, I think he is great, but Joe's drumming just stands out a lot. Joe also had a really good stage presence aswell.
Really? For me, he's a fantastic drummer. Just listen the redoubling on 'Dear Prudence' and 'The Ballad of John and Yoko'. Those are some of the greatest drum performances on the Beatles, along with 'A Day In The Life' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. I like Ringo, but even in drumming I prefer Paul.
I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't eat trash... I work out hard everyday and have a healthy life. And I'm proud of it.
I reluctantly have to agree..... personally for me, I never gave a rat's a** which Wings drummer was the most proficient...they're insignificant to me ( I mean, I'm sure they're all nice guys and all, and I've seen two of them in concert in the past..but alas, they all sound the same IMO)and MORE importantly... they'll never be Ringo..on the skins, he was a force of nature--he didn't have to be technically great, he put his PERSONALITY& HEART into his playing. Paul, the great musician he was/is notwithstanding, put his EGO into his drum playing, once again trying to PROVE to everyone he was rock's great "renaissance man" who could do it all.

The question was who is the better drummer and not "Ringo is great isn't he? What a lovable guy". Its easy to say he put his "Personality and Heart" in his drumming because The Beatles had movies and Ringo alone stared in movies. Unfortunately for the Wings Drummers, they were overshadowed by Paul because of the media. Its ignorant to say they all sound the same because they don't. If Ringo was in Wings instead of beatles you would say the same thing, that he is insignificant. They'll never be Ringo because they are better drummers then he is. You have some nerve saying that.

I gotta agree.. Ringo is a decent drummer, but he's not amazing IMO. If anyones drumming sounds the same to me it's Ringo's because it's very simple sounding, there isn't much to it. I could think of many songs where the drumming could be improved. Not that I would change it, because Ringo was his own personality within The Beatles, and they are great the way they are. The Beatles was the four of them, and Wings was basically just Paul and Linda to the media (even though in reality they weren't). Hell even Paul portrays it as such more often than not, so it's easy to overlook it. It's foolish to say that none of the drummers of Wings didn't have "personality & heart". Mind you I can think of better drummers out of Beatles/Wings/Solo Paul, but that's not what this thread is about.
