I don't know, but I like to think that if I had all the money Paul McCartney and John Lennon (or the other two what's-their-names)* had in 1967, I'd share the wealth with working staff like Mal Evans, Neil A., Geoff Emerick - heck, even George Martin, who probably was not a millionaire.  Countless other behind-the-scenes people who helped the Beatles with things.

According to Mal Evans, in 1967 he expected to receive some kind of royality for Sergeant Pepper.  He was assured this, allegdly, by Paul.  Mal Evans was happy, thinking he could now get his house.  But instead, he continued getting his 38-pounds-a-week.

Forget about the supposed "royality."  That's neither here nor there.  How can you be a millionaire-times-five and not spread the wealth to people close to you?

I mean, wouldn't you?

*(only kidding about poor George & Ringo)

Peter Blake was employed to design and produce a cover for Sgt. Pepper, for which he quoted a price, and was paid it. There's nothing unusual about that. You don't get royalties for things like that. Back in the 80's I designed the Brothers In Arms world tour programme for Dire Straits. The company I worked for got paid for it. End of story. The thing about doing work for famous people is that it looks good on your CV, and everyone's seen it.

All successful artists employ people on their staff, that doesn't entitle them to royalties. I know Mal and Neil occasionally did the odd thing on a Beatles record, and I expect they may have been slipped a few bob extra in their pay packets. I reckon their were plenty of perks to working for The Beatles in the 60's. Didn't they buy Mal a house as a wedding present, for instance? And Neil got to be MD of Apple. Not bad from his humble beginnings. George Martin didn't do too badly out of his association with them either!

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
