I figured this forum would have a good guess as to how many Beatles fans there are in the world, based on record sales if nothing else.
So, how many fans of the Fab Four do you think are around today? Are there like millions and millions, or way less and the Fabs are mostly a history lesson? Thank you!

Thank you, Pasta Cheif, that's what I was looking for. 1st 4 weeks-- was that worldwide? Where can I look up sales figures?
There's quite a spread between 13 million and "thousands" as Andy says. That's why I'm curious. Thank you!

The Beatles have amassed the greatest sales for any group. All-time sales have been estimated by EMI at over one billion discs and tapes to date. In 2001, they had been certified for album sales of 163.5 million in the US alone. The band has numerous other world records, including that for most recorded song - Lennon and McCartney's "Yesterday" had 1,600 versions recorded between 1965 and January 1, 1986. Also, their album titled 1, released on November 13, 2000, sold 13.5 million copies around the world in its first month, making it the fastest-selling album.
Well, today world population is about 6,500,000,000 (6.5 billion). So I suppose at least 5% of all that people has Beatles records and listen to their music. Wow, more than 300 million fans!

Wingsman: 300,000,000 BM & PC: 13,500,000+ Andy: thousands Komakino: 136 to 142 Mean Mr. Mustard: two.
You can see why I'm so interested in getting some hard data on this. I welcome all facts and speculations!

This is going really good. How funny! Let's hope I'm right. I suppose many fans never bought '1', but I'm sure many people became a Beatle fan since they buy '1'. I'm one of those!

Don't hold me to this, I think I might've miscalculated
Sorry, MMM, this is like the Song Survivor Game. Once you vote, you can't change it. For all eternity, people will see this thread and wonder why you thought there were only 2 Beatles fans.
...actually, that's a cool thought. Ages from now, scholars will look back on this message board. "Imagine that," they'll say. "This guy in 2007 thought there were only 2 Beatles fans, when today there are 34,295,342,676,234,552,646,346,645 of them." (this is assuming continued population growth... and probably a reissue of the Beatles catalog...)

If there's that many fans I'd hate to think about how many normal people there would be inhabiting the planet. Or the moon or Mars...
First Beatle fans on Mars: "That's one small step for the normal people, and one giant leap for Beatlekind."

ahh, so not fair, Hari... (and after I tried to be somewhat intelligent in my other posts, it had to be THIS one that'll be my everlasting curse!! hehe)
Well 'thousands' would be really a really small number. Again, just by sales on their 1 album if you get 13-14 million in only a month, I would have to easily say '10s of millions', because many more probably didn't buy the album and made copies.. That would be just currently how many fans they have.
"Dont take life seriously, you'll never get out of it alive"
i'm a fan and i've never bought a record or something so i don't think you can rely on the record sales.
So true. I was a fan for years before I bought any records. We need to implant a microchip in everyone's brain so we can accurately monitor questions like these! Oh, and welcome to the forums!

I would imagine The Beatles have quite a large dormant fanbase across the age spectrum ? When eventually there music goe's online and we get decent remasters to buy , only then will we know who's out there ? but i would hope it's millions

Hmm...I've wondered about this. I reckon that some fans have given up waiting, and lost interest. And some, if not most, think that the original CD's sound fine, and why should they pay for expensive remasters when they already have CD's? Of course, we'll all buy them, but I think we're the exception. I have a decent, expensive hi-fi, so I want the best possible quality, but most of my friends have mini hi-fi systems, or they use their cheap surround sound kit to listen to music. Those kind of people will not be replacing their CD's. I can see the downloads doing reasonably well, in a limited capacity. Some people will download the odd song, but I can't see existing fans - especially long standing ones - downloading entire albums.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
