Yeah, interesting video. V. cute, if odd. I agree, the girls are great, but what is Paul trying to say here? Is Beatlemania part of his ever present past? So now as then he sees himself surrounded by Beatlemaniacs, only these days they dress in sleek black slacks and twirl around in pouty polished unison? V. peculiar.

Then he fades out in imitation of Rodin's Thinker. Is Paul also confounded by the meaning, and trying to work it out?

OK, his dancing is terrible. Terrible terrible. When I first watched it I didn't know if laugh or cry.
Paul loves being ridicolous. I love that. All the girls look very similar. Sure there are plenty of them and not just one reproduced over and over?
I don't know, really strange video. But it's better this than nothing. Let's hope will be a third single for Memory Almost Full.

That's better than my thought, which was that he was trying to be a Michael Jackson. Maybe he thought, if he confused people enough about his identity, they'd accidentally start sending him royalties for all those songs Mike owns...

thought it was great, reminds me of the video for music is my radar by blur lots of random dancing that you would'nt associate with the track, geez when he did the twirl i thought he was gonna start break dancing . i think both videos so far have been good.

anyways i doubt it was pauls idea, probably the director " hey paul i know what would be cool for you're video and would be hip and get you in with the youngsters, you dancing and sexy woman dancing round you ?" "okay but only if they are fully clothed and its in a art gallery i still wanna look sophisto"

I thought it was alright. The dancing isn't overdone and it's good to see the old geezer has got some moves. It's cool.

I'd heard about this vid, and thought he might be embarrassing himself in it, so I'd put off watching it. However, it's pretty good. It's a good, fairly catchy song, so doesn't need any complex imagery in the video, and the dance routine seems to work just right - not too many fast moves for the old man. 7/10.

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

Interesting if it is October 22 - same release date as Ray Davies' new one solo album, 'Working Man's Cafe'.

Ray's new Myspace page is previewing three tracks from the album...

Ray Davies Official Myspace

...the official release date is stated there as the 29th, but Amazon and others are shipping on the 22nd. Go figure.

Hey people. News about 'Ever Present Past'. The release date of the single changed to Monday November 5th. And this is a good one: it's gonna be released as a CD single, 7" Vinyl and digitally all the same day, so we can expect a good chart position!!
The singles are coming with live tracks differently for any format. Great!!

CD Single
1. Ever Present Past
2. Only Mama Knows (Live from Amoeba)
3. Dance Tonight (Live from Amoeba)

7" Vinyl
Side A Ever Present Past
Side B House Of Wax (Live from Amoeba)

Digital
1. Ever Present Past
2. Only Mama Knows (Live From Amoeba)
3. That Was Me (Live From Amoeba)

Please, UK people, make it Top 20!!

I was listening to Ever Presant Past this afternoon , and the thought occured to me had Paul written it in the 80's it would have gone top 3 no problem as it's such a well crafted single , sadley i think it will struggle to crack the top 30 , the charts for older artists are so unfair today ?

Exactly! It's something that happens almost to everybody. Paul clearly lost his reign at the charts in 1985 (when he was 43). That year he achieved his last UK/US Top 10 hit as a solo artist: 'Spies Like Us'.   Since 'Press To Play' he was never able to achieve big hit singles again.
But in the other hand he produced memorable and successful albums. Just check out 'Flaming Pie' or 'Memory Almost Full'! The former sold almost 2 million and the latter 1.5 millon copies! That's not bad for a 55-65 year-old.
At this point, we just can expect to Paul releasing hit album, not hit singles. (Although a Top 20 like 'Young Boy' or 'Fine Line' is still a hit!)

OMG!   What happened with Ever Present Past in the UK charts! Is not present on the entire Top 75!
What a failure!

Does anybody knows why?

Simple really. Second singles off albums that have already been out for a few months tend not to sell very well. Most people that would buy it already have it on the album. It's more a promotional vehicle to sell more albums.

As I said before, I knew it was bound for failure. To be honest, its not a very good song and anybody who had any interest in it has already bought the album a long time ago.

Paul really screwed this up. Honestly, he could have released 'Only Mama Knows' eons ago and it would have even seen some airplay on the classic rock stations where Paul hasent had an audience since god knows when. Oh well, lets get another album on the way.

It's an OK little pop song. Nothing special. I can't comment on the rest of the album because I haven't got it, but I wouldn't expect something like this to sell that well even if it was the first single.

It Wasn't a surprise to me at all that it was second single i actually thought it should have been the first single off the album.

When i First listened to the album it was the first one to jump out at me and it sounded very similar to other bands in the charts at the moment so i also thought it would be his most commercial song of the lot.

I may get around to it eventually. I'm not a big collector of solo stuff; I don't have to rush out and get it as soon as it comes out, nor do I have to have it all. I have nothing from the 80's, for instance. I used to have Tug Of War, and Flowers In The Dirt on vinyl, but have never got around to replacing them on CD.

Yes, I know. But second singles like Jenny Wren or The World Tonight made the UK Top 25. This doesn't show up in the entire Top 75! That's terrible.

Those singles only just made it. And Dance Tonight only made 26. If your first single doesn't do that well, there's not much hope for the second. There's a lot more illegal downloading going on now than even there was 2 years ago, and less and less people buy singles now anyway. They are increasingly, mainly seen as promotion for albums. The million selling single is long gone. And McCartney hasn't had a number one in the UK since 1983, and only 2 top 10's since then. I think you need to stop thinking of him as the megga selling artist that he isn't.
