I'll be seeing Pete Best in concert next weekend. I'm flying to Seattle, Washington next week for a short vacation. On Saturday, Oct. 12, I've convinced a couple of friends to drive up to Ferndale to see Pete and his band performing at the Silver Reef Casino.

Hey, why not? He was certainly a Beatle, with more stage time (is it official now?) than Ringo Starr.

Details are here:

Lucky you. Have a great time, and make sure you get your picture taken with Pete!

If you're going to be away all week, you can PM your votes for Let It Be in the Song Survivor Game. I never resist the opportunity for a shameless plug!

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

Oh, I should get my picture taken. Suddenly I'm nervous! We'll see if I actually go up there. I'm a natural-born coward.

I won't leave until Tues, so I plan to vote before I go. I would not miss the SSG! I must have my share of the conversation! (...which has been hard, as my internet has been down all week. It appears to be fixed again, finally! So I have a lot of catch-up to do.)

Cheers!

Hari, if Pete ever writes his auto-bio, it should be titled "I'll Cry Instead" OR "Twist & Pout"

dont get shy...you'll love the experience. It's unlike any concert you've ever/heard, and you'll have a much better appreciation of how the beatles sounded in early days....and pete's role in 1960-62.

Contrary to how the casino ads are showing, you're not going to see a tribute band recreating beatle songs.   The songs listed in the silver reef ad are actually some of the tamer lower key songs in the show.  It's all high energy, like seeing "Antholgy 1 live" as its the very early music that the beatles did in the cavern and star club, with at least 12-13 tracks from Anth 1. My Bonnie, Cry for a Shadow, 3 cool cats, Aint she sweet, hello little girl, besame mucho...plus 1 after 909, kansas city and some other fun surprises.

Make note of the lead guitar work, the bass players vocal range.....and also the backbeat double drumset for the large sound.  The reviews in the east for the summer and fall were amazing, so forget the tongue in cheek "twist and pout" comments in the thread, and let the music and the humor help you make up your own mind.  the vocals and guitar work are so good..that after a while u'll forget it's Pete on one drumkit in the back. and yunger brother roag on the other kit.

More fun?  Send the band jose cuervo shots on stage...

You're going to have a great time..

There are already a few books on the market:

BEATLE! The Pete Best Story by Pete Best and Patrick Doncaster

The Best Years of the Beatles by Pete Best and Bill Harry

The Beatles: The True Beginnings by Pete, Roag, and Rory Best

Wow, 62, thanks for the info!

I was not expecting Pete to do Beatles songs. I thought he would do his own stuff-- whatever that was! I'm delighted to hear he'll be doing stuff off Anth. 1. I love those early tunes. The energy is amazing, and so fun!

In just a couple of hours I'll get in the car and start driving north. We're going to stop at Deception Pass on our way. We've had lots of rain and wind here the last two days, but all looks fair for our trip. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers!

I saw Pete last night! The concert was only a little over an hour long (only $15 tickets, so not surprising), but a lot of fun. They set it up like a Star Club or Hamburg performance, playing very early Beatles tunes (either from the Decca tape or the non-hits from their first album) and other rock 'n' roll hits from the era, Chuck Berry etc. It was a blast imagining Pete playing these very tunes as a squeaky youngster with the other baby Beatles.

The audience was a bit of a disappointment, not very lively although everyone seemed to have a good time. They mostly stared and sang along; very few people were dancing. Finally the band _ordered_ everyone to stand for the last three numbers, and that was quite fun. But we certainly had our share of geezers in the audience, so I'm not sure they could have lasted more than three songs. I meant to count, but I'll guess there were about 500 people there.

Afterwards, I got my picture taken with Pete 4 times, because my camera wasn't working right. How clever of me. (It turned out the flash was disabled and my friend didn't understand that, so I actually have 3 dark pictures and 1 bright one where Pete has his eyes closed. I'll post the best of these when I get back to my own computer; I'm in the hotel lobby at the moment.) Pete was very nice about the camera malfunction, saying he could stay there all night. He did have a nice hug. He looked tired, but he was very pleasant and good-natured.

After that, we had a few drinks with an architect who is living in Canada but emigrated from Liverpool in '66. He remembers seeing the Beatles (and Pete) back in the day, and had many amusing stories to share among solving the
problems of the world. When I mentioned that Pete looked tired (it was the last gig in this part of the world), Vern said, well, he always looked like that! Even when he was a kid, he looked kind of bored and tired--sort of the opposite of Paul, who is so bouncy and wheeeeee! Aren't we having fun! Pete's attitude is more, yeah, whatever. But it's clear he enjoys what he's doing; that's just his "mean, moody magnificence" that is obviously an enduring trait.

I'm going to rustle up some breakfast now. I get on the plane back to Colorado later today. People were impressed that I had traveled so far, but I by no means win the Silver Airplane award. There was a couple here last night from the Nederlands. Friends of the forum?

Cheers, all!

Thanks, Andy! Here are a few piccies from the concert. Now you can pretend you went!

Notice the casino in the background. We were wondering why this venue; perhaps they were trying to draw people from Canada 15 miles away. It's about 2 hours north of Seattle in the middle of nowhere.

The Best Band.

The Best Man.

Pete came forward a couple of times to chat. He did have a strong accent, so I sometimes missed what he was saying. And here I thought I had trained my ear to understand Beatle-speak!

I didn't use my flash during the show, because I didn't want to disrupt it. So I got this dark picture afterwards with Pete because I forgot to set it back. Lucky thing, too, as people often close their eyes during my flash (as Pete did). But he was sweet about taking all the extra poses.

Notice the picture I got signed. It's the same one as in the poster above. Now it's in my office!

hope you don't mind i brightened the picture a little bit   Sounds like you had a great time!

"Wings IV introduced Jimmy McCulloch, a spunky lead guitarist with grit, able to spur Paul on unlike any previous soloist. His debut track, the magnificent single `Junior's Farm', stands as one of Wings' finest emotional and technical releases."

"Few people on this planet know as much about Jimmy's musical history than you."

"I'm Joe English and I'm from Glasgow, Scotland." xD

Thank you, JimmyMcCullochFan! I like your version better.

Yes, it was a great outing, both for the event itself and for the conversation with Beatles people afterwards. Cheers!

Glad you had a fantastic time!!

That is so weird though because when I met Pete MY camera malfunctioned too and he had to keep re-posing! And also, as in your case, he was as nice as pie about it! Top bloke!

You should have asked him if he thinks he spent more time on stage with The Beatles than Ringo...
