Anthology 2 for me.. although 3 is probably better in my heart 2 wins and i think is more important. disc of anthology 2 Real Love.. I'm looking through you, the false start on You've got to hide your love away, the live performances, the alternate versions of Got To Get you Into My Life and I'm looking through you shows a band not afraid to tinker till the very last I'm only sleeping. Side 2 the gorgeous demo of Strawberry fields, A Day in the Life!!!!!! Good Morning Good Morning even You know my name look up the number..
I love that great thumping rhythm on the Anthology version. And this:
Everybody knows there's nothing doing Everything is closed, it's like a ruin Everyone you see is half asleep And you're on your own, you're in the street
After a while you start to smile now you feel cool Then you decide to take a walk by the old school Nothing has changed it's still the same I've got nothing to say but it's O.K. Good morning good morning good morning a
People running 'round it's five o'clock Everywhere in town it's getting dark Everyone you see is full of life It's time for tea and meet the wife
Not exactly laid back hippy stuff! Very John, though.
i've always preferred Anthology 2 better, i notice these things when i play it more than the others. i remember first buying it when it was released & just played it to death! i was very dissapointed with anthhology 1, but 3 was good, but i think more of the let it be outtakes could have been on there.
HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO THE WHITE ALBUM! you say its your birthday!
anthology 2 for me, all those acoustic versions of strawberry fields, i heard one of my favourite songs of there's for the first time on it "Yes it is" and real love was fantastic to hear.
Am I the only one who really preferes "Anthology 1"???
I've actually only recently began appreciating this. I'm simply not as big a fan of their pre-Rubber Soul stuff as I am of the stuff that came after. thus, I never really had much interest in anthology 1. but over the last year or so I've come to love stuff like "My Bonnie" and "Searchin." and In Spite of All the Danger is a good song and cool because it's truly the "first" Beatles song ever made. not much on disc 2 interests me though. Moonlight Bay is good fun I guess. same with All My Loving for Sullivan. but I can leave the rest.
I like Anthology 3 the best. mastered versions of some of the esher songs, the awesome Helter Skelter take 2 (we want take 3!!!!), What's the New Mary Jane, live stuff from Savile Row. for me, it's the easiest to listen to right through.
It's great...it sold...it's the bloody Beatles' White Album, shut up
i already had most of the stuff on bootleg before Anthology 1 came out, but there was a lot of stuff on Anthology 2 that i haden't heard before like 12-bar original, You've got troubles & That Means a Lot. that's probley why i prefer it more.
HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY TO THE WHITE ALBUM! you say its your birthday!
2 and 3 are definately my favorite. I like 2 because of all the drugged out versions of the songs (like "And Your Bird Can Sing"). I love 3 because it has all the songs off of "Let It Be" that aren't all Spector-ed out, and the version of Hey Jude is pretty kick a**!
i like 3 better it's more individual i can see George's growth as a song writer
Totally agree! Some of those songs are chilling to hear and beautiful "While my guitar gently weeps" "All Things Must Pass", etc. Plus some of the unplugged and raw sounding takes. But they're all good in a unique way, which makes the Beatles and this collection soo special!
