RINGO STARR'S NEW STUDIO ALBUM, LIVERPOOL 8, TO BE RELEASED JANUARY 14 BY CAPITOL/EMI First New Solo Release with Capitol Since 1974; To Be Available On CD & Digitally Starr to Launch Album at Liverpool Concert Event on January 12 On January 14, Ringo Starr will release Liverpool 8, his first new album with Capitol/EMI since 1974's Goodnight Vienna. Liverpool 8 will be available worldwide on CD and digitally, and the album’s title track will debut as a digital single on December 4. Starr will launch the album with a hometown performance on January 12 to commence Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations. Liverpool 8, also the title of the album's upbeat, vibrant lead track, "refers to the section of Liverpool where I used to live," explains Ringo. "The song was actually Dave Stewart's idea, as a mini autobiographical travelogue: 'I was a sailor first…' and then, 'Liverpool I left you' – because I did. 'but I never let you down,' which is true." Although Starr and Stewart have known each other for years, this is the first time they have collaborated. It began when Dave asked Ringo to lay down some drums on a track Stewart had done with George Harrison. "After I did the drums I asked Dave to add some guitars to my album, which Mark Hudson and I were working on at Mark's Whatinthewhathe? Studio in LA. After Mark and I parted ways, Dave and I took over producing the record," Starr said. Then added in his trademark wit, "and that's why the credits say: Produced by Ringo Starr and Mark Hudson and Over-produced by Ringo Starr and Dave Stewart." Liverpool 8's 12 original tracks were all co-written by Starr and were recorded in England and in California. "The writing of the records is always the same," Ringo explains, "it's the same group of guys and we all sit together and write about what's happening." That "group of guys" who joined Starr on the album's songwriting and recording are (in alphabetical order): Gary Burr, Steve Dudas, Mark Hudson, Sean Hurley, Zac Rae, and Dave Stewart. Since beginning his career in the 1960s with The Beatles, Ringo Starr has been one of the world's brightest musical luminaries. Starr has enjoyed a successful and dynamic solo career as a singer, songwriter and drummer, an active musical collaborator, and as an actor. Drawing inspiration from classic blues, soul, country, honky-tonk and rock 'n' roll, Starr continues to play an important role in modern music with his solo recording and touring. His last studio album, Choose Love, was released in 2005.
Ringo has said that as time goes on there is more and more of his personality in his music, and the songs on Liverpool 8 feel personal. Starr's candor, wit and soul are evident in the lyrics and the heartbeat of every song; I always followed my heart and I never missed a beat. Peace and love are Ringo Starr's primary life beats, and Liverpool 8 propels this universal message in each of its evocative songs, which are imbued with joy, insight, reflection and wisdom from the music icon the world knows and loves simply as 'Ringo.'

This sounds like a great idea for Ringo. I didnt know about it, thx. The Liverpool theme will hopefully make it a bestseller for him. Usually I always back anything Ringo does, but this project sounds sounds especially intriguing.
Paul was the first former Beatle to give homage to his old hometown w/ "Liverpool Oratorio"
This is so exciting. Paul and Ringo will play on Liverpool in 2008. Don't you think Ringo's gonna play Liverpool 8? Could it be better? I don't think so!
I'm so happy for him.
I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't eat trash... I work out hard everyday and have a healthy life. And I'm proud of it.
i can't believe they got the whole album posted online already....i will send you the link if you make a post at moondogs...other wise, find it yourself.....and please still buy the album...r u ready to crossover has a great country feel.....playlist as bobber posted... catchy tunes all of them....
Liverpool 8 is deadly, positively deadly! I just listened to it on Amazon and I'm a soggy mess.
Ringo is really aging like a champ. I'm so glad he's getting more personal in his songs as time goes by.
Thanks for the pre-listening link. I have a feeling I'll end up buying this one.

Ouch. So far I've only listened to the title track, but sorry to my ears it's awful. The lyric is cringe-inducingly bad and the whole thing sounds embarrasingly like the Peter Serafinowicz parody "Goldfinger" I posted in the youtube section a while ago. The only charitable thing I can say is that it has a certain amateurish charm (like your kids drawings you hang on the fridge.) Hopefully I'll listen to the rest before I finish tonight.
I must be missing something. All respect to others opinions, but this sounds so dated. It would have sounded old twenty years ago. Dated and bad. Bad bad. The songs are awful, the vocals (even for Ringo) are bland bordering on inept and the backing sounds like some crappy eighties computer programme. I really want to love Ringo but this is embarrasing. If this was some unknown guy playing in a bar I'd either have to get very drunk or leave. Some of it actually made me laugh and I'm not sure it's supposed to. "I think I'm going under, my heart it beats like thunder.." NOooooooo Yay. I've got the full set now. Back to the "say something nice" thread.
"Liverpool 8, also the title of the album's upbeat, vibrant lead track, "refers to the section of Liverpool where I used to live," explains Ringo" I think Ringo's been a bit naughty here. He's all over the news today - he's headlining the concert tonight that kicks of Liverpools tenure as European City Of Culture ( ! ) for 2008. And guess what all the millions of banners, posters and flyers that are decorating the city to celebrate this year long event say: Yes, you guessed it, Liverpool 8. And Ringo, bless him, just happens to release an album/single of the same name, almost on the same day, which happily reminesces (sp) about the city. Tacky Ringo, tacky.
I don't think it's tacky at all. It's a tribute to the place he was born. And I think Liverpool is extremely lucky to have someone to launch their year in this way. He didn't invent the fact that he was born in Liverpool 8 in that tiny house in Madryn Street. Would you prefer him to deny it?

My point is that he's saying the title comes from his postcode, when in fact it seems to be a shameless attempt to cash in on the cities culture capital celebrations. Either that or it's one hell of a happy coincidence that his Liverpool 8 hits the shops just as Liverpool 8 logo's appear all over the city and he headlines the Liverpool 8 concert.. He's known for ages that on almost the same day he releases Liverpool 8 he's headlining the Liverpool 8 celebrations. It would be better (but still tacky) if he just told the truth.
Maybe I'm being unkind. I'll settle for "Ringo has spotted an oppotunity and has used it to his advantage." It's still a rubbish song and album though.
I got as far as 'Gone Are The Days', which sounds like it was a promising song in the making, until the band came in. The title tracks lyrics are awful, but the song is OK.
I like Ringo, but as usual, I find that I can only listen to his singing for two or three songs running. Usually his albums are fairly ordinary, but contain a couple of very good numbers. 5 tracks in I haven't heard either of them yet. Sorry Ringo.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
I think it's a charming song, and I think it's wonderful that Ringo has found an opportunity to share his recollections with a wider audience. He's always had to work harder to get noticed (I haven't listened to any of his solo albums all the way through, just certain tracks-- sorry, Ringo!).
I was completely aware there was a Liverpool 8 thing going on. What fun! Ringo does this chanting thing like a football match-- what fun! Ringo talks about his experience in the Fabs-- what fun! I would not be a sourpuss about this for anything. The Beatles (at least in the beginning) were about having fun, and to my mind Ringo captures that mood perfectly.
When did music appreciation get all grim and serious like all those boring literature classes that suck the life out of the finest classic and make you want to stab the book with a pen? Is this familiarity breeding contempt-- everyone has to jump through so many damn hoops you just can't like anything any more? It has to be coldly analysed like a scientific specimen? It's a danger with any profession-- I have to guard against it with novels, and even then not many pass muster. But I think it's kind of sad that so much of the sheer enjoyment of listening to a new song appears to be gone. *puts on a bright red dress and goes chanting and dancing with the unwashed masses*

^ Bless you. If only the whole world could be like you. I actually do try to be a positive kind of person but you are the Queen Bee. Still hate it though.
It's all a matter of taste. But we Americans have always gone barmy for Ringo, don't ask me why.

Because he's not considered a bad boy a la John?
I wonder should I call you but I know what you'd do You'd say I'm putting you on But it's no joke it's doing me harm.... Tell me tell me tell me come on tell me the answer You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer.... When I get near you The games begin to drag me down It's alright I'll make you maybe next time around.... I wonder where you are tonight and why I'm by myself...
Your guess is as good as mine. I only started to appreciate Ringo recently. I disliked him in the Anthology series, and I wasn't a Beatles fan before that. Ringo admirers, tell us your secret!

"Wings IV introduced Jimmy McCulloch, a spunky lead guitarist with grit, able to spur Paul on unlike any previous soloist. His debut track, the magnificent single `Junior's Farm', stands as one of Wings' finest emotional and technical releases."
"Few people on this planet know as much about Jimmy's musical history than you."
"I'm Joe English and I'm from Glasgow, Scotland." xD
On Amazon.com, the album is #19 in music and #13 in pop-- and it's not actually released until tomorrow. Yay, Ringo!

Oh great! The album will appear on the Billboard 200 next week. I'm pretty sure of that. So funny. Last year we were expecting Paul reaching #1 in the US with Memory Almost Full (it finally did #3....) and now we're hoping Ringo just reaching any place of the entire chart.!

"Liverpool i left you but i never let you down" what a load of crap anyone who watched tonights jonathan ross show would see how just the sad comments ringo made about liverpool let himself and the city down........his appearance at thecapital of culture opening earlier this week was only a well timed bit of free publicity for his new album....which no doubt will be another under achieving load of drivvle
